Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

( l- o7 u) @4 S) qFUNCTIONS:
0 |, k1 m7 a" y% s# B•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
- b( m' N4 y! J0 G* S•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
6 p5 L6 O) V5 ~+ ?) L1 j2 L•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
* i6 T" S. |: @+ r; m•        Adhere to schedules.
- h3 X; p$ n) C9 L2 K•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
0 o# J! G5 L3 u  S•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
" O) T+ \( Z: @" f6 g+ [  T•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
0 X# R& B' i% a5 T9 ~% u. x; Ato be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
0 `; _$ ~3 X9 ~1 l6 bof the day.
/ |1 y& O! t. j9 x•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
3 N" ?/ M' j# t8 {•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
: z& F! b- @1 b  Sshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
& s" Q. L) \! T+ j/ Q2 I- N•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

% k: O2 |( J5 tVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
4 a  R1 {* m" Q# q4 S* _1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
