Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.5 g5 s5 l) @5 X$ x2 c; U  v3 x

FUNCTIONS:
6 l& q3 J7 O1 R1 K. j' f4 G•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
0 N' h2 R$ t" ?; o/ d) ?2 v•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.7 Y# }* z, C' I% S
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.- @# X' y7 D8 f! o
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Adhere to schedules.2 }* i. {0 N- A8 |% X$ Z: Z" a
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. " _; V- N1 k# H0 Y$ T8 u

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
0 W) ~" L$ J/ h•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
0 C. x! f# t6 O6 G& _to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger * x, ]8 B- L6 O0 F. E$ |

•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).9 s! ^1 {0 V0 g7 D0 A
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
# k+ B  U& n5 i! Y$ B7 ~9 {- q2 Z6 C0 A•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.$ ^: i! Y7 l, o) }
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
4 i* M$ q" C! e& Z; C* t2 Gshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
% T8 f( p! H3 Z$ o% w; X•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
3 R% g! o8 P/ l7 m% P% \2 Avideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).9 N' x8 W/ d$ @9 ^, }. v* g' n
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
, I  Q8 S7 ~# D6 R5 N9 g% g•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.& A$ u) ?8 R& N6 w

HOURS OF WORK:
5 L; j! v5 D5 U: f  C( ^; C) @Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
2 n& @2 @: @1 S$ r: t7 k4 X. f1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
0 w8 t, t& Y4 B  uThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly5 `% R0 J( A2 ^& Y

- F& b% o' @3 x! g) TSALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004 1 O5 l) [' ~4 l1 t
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly* }" k2 ~; {( G7 @/ L9 p) E
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly6 j1 E  c) h" q( P3 @! c) f+ o
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.$ A: Y6 |4 C% `9 `7 Q
