9 z" A1 L$ g4 [; L/ ~1 v" \6 G, EEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
. I3 `, A& j# a: F•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
' P, e- X9 t3 U7 a2 \1 a$ q•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
! F2 W- H; _- E+ E. ?9 P1 p( m•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
( i' B3 J3 S9 g% K& Iand traffic conditions.
: ?* U" z  M1 Q•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
# b8 X) O% m. j•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

1 ~2 f, l; Z3 T8 ^9 m( z6 |•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
/ F( R# Y& a0 F4 i9 |5 G•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
& S* {9 U" Z# S* h. a•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
1 N& c" L8 z. G7 b( H" Tvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
/ K- t- A5 g* q0 Z•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
0 L$ P# G( E6 D0 L4 ^# Y•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

! t' f' C, j( Z. ~HOURS OF WORK:
  Y) Z$ c9 f% l: m- h1 hVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
7 G8 E+ O/ x* A+ r: DThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
8 ]( q; T7 H3 l' B" b3 p4 GTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
% g4 t# v" Y0 B3 bPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
