Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis./ Y: Y' C5 D3 Q8 l

" q2 F' ]% {: ^9 z% F% S• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
8 `2 C4 ~" U2 x• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
- \+ T1 L% ?5 G# `$ o- H5 Y• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
4 p. a' N7 x# C• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather E4 ]8 b+ R# q* k0 ^
and traffic conditions.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:0 Q6 v8 L: e: B3 W H! ?" Q1 J
• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
$ v; |# ^' z6 d- D• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 5 n# X" _1 L, s' z/ [) G
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

0 L$ \0 c# Y+ `$ U• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
$ x* I! ^+ X0 X• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
9 R9 X3 ]6 Q# z; K% ?• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.- ?$ I3 k+ n0 ^" g4 M3 V
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) " G* f3 {% F# H5 S1 j
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
9 c1 ^8 O, P7 E4 M+ V; ?# I• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
, A ?" A7 S8 W. e# }' Z4 Cvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
