Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

7 z( L$ L" c7 ?; Q% q# `) D• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.3 Q. c7 y# [5 X+ N7 F
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.- H2 t) ]) y; w
• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
9 ^6 n% `, Z' \9 ^• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather * E" c" n1 g! ^ P
and traffic conditions. ; ~4 q# P3 I" h
• Adhere to schedules.
7 E# w9 \- X O8 w' F X$ c. ]3 j/ h• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations. ; E8 u% i h7 U% z9 C& x" S

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.6 K; p2 k1 Y+ r
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).. I7 v4 h( W: h! y$ ?, r
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.5 K) W( t4 |. p8 P0 e$ e! z
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.1 z4 h7 q6 V, a4 g! `) T
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
" ~* H" l# _" E9 B* f3 i& H7 yshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. S! T9 z( C. A4 h' j# N
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
0 z% ]' Z D, I; `3 b1 qvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.; p( n3 r: {2 U" z" b6 s

HOURS OF WORK:
' ~: }4 x: v& d& ]$ \Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
( D& t' b _; r$ O m7 w8 Q1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly7 i& _( ?3 V' v6 F+ D8 g& l2 t
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
