Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

9 F# H/ \- Q0 a9 ^: w' x3 t+ S•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
. ^- |- p+ A/ u0 z' [; w& F•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
& |  p9 C* O0 v8 l& ^•        Provide excellent customer service.

: [/ r: J$ v. B3 LJOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
6 `; q4 h  d* q' o$ o* {& `to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

/ I: i( C- W! ^6 ~9 f4 v•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
8 T9 d4 N0 N3 l, `( K7 |•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
8 `2 {& t0 `* Q1 R( ~# y; e; [•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

1 W6 r7 I. S% A& ~+ PHOURS OF WORK:
, M' K$ K. U; d" m9 YVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
