- o, C( H# I5 J8 kEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:( d9 i* E* R9 g3 s
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
& q7 r/ D) k. V  `/ }+ j& s•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.; U; L+ X" Y4 |% V% m4 z
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information." g; v, k) n1 y3 a0 N
•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 2 J7 k; }3 @- @
and traffic conditions.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset." ?5 |. N: p. m; _' w* L3 v4 C
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability

•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).1 S( D7 ]& h5 O3 l
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.. Z, v% g  X) X. {- P! ~7 w5 ?
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
% U' g" K2 l- C2 A•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
0 b* W. R# n3 [+ Bshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. ( Y, ]" N" q2 T
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
5 J  s0 p  M; \, m" b- Y/ Q/ Gvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
& x& l6 j* C0 l/ E# ]•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
$ H! T' ]$ e! n8 O. a3 ^•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.8 s9 i% M' _7 t) ~: `( k

. y' p. y8 m; `! E3 I6 MHOURS OF WORK:/ k6 V3 i% X' m) |, d/ @
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
3 f0 _: |- ]) R6 z. ^* s( b0 {1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly& s9 ]& U+ \3 n2 S6 u" s) s/ u
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly" e$ Z( a2 v% l( z9 K0 m

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004 ) {/ |: G3 C9 w' _7 H# W4 a7 R
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly2 g, @6 B+ }) @- o* V8 |" v! E
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly/ z. `7 w. z/ L: V% R5 s+ E
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.0 |/ M& S9 v9 {4 s6 t
