% O, L' e, K% q  C$ }JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  # ^/ z% H  B) K1 ]2 c! h
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  3 F8 q0 m; S1 @" q0 M  Z
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
/ l) L( S/ V# jCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
) y3 {1 p4 {4 ?2 V2 w5 |% EStanding Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  ! E9 O  J, ?# D7 A. ]
year following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:: c; f* w: v# C: J

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 20001 B1 M  {6 j7 ~7 K8 S' o; l" a

/ N5 D3 a- ]2 x2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000./ |4 V) ?: q# S3 {) v1 T
1 {' E$ `9 h! k. }  B7 Q
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.  A  C( {7 v; q  ?
# D4 {2 U; S; ~3 h$ C% f/ q$ z; d& k# {0 N
4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
( ?. @3 Y! ?/ L7 E4 H: r3 |adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
8 ^* c6 j( ^1 Y' n! H( racross campus, and advertising the poll locations.9 S6 Z, I9 c/ m: [+ X% A; y
5 I0 h3 k& }9 k. h# H1 ?. P* ]
5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/ & I  h: p* w! B  f
referenda." z0 t4 h- j3 ]% i

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
+ f/ {" T( G* R' _parties.

7 _5 m" q9 x& z' t3 n, O* H7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ 9 a: m# V3 D% m' N* E( a
referendum.

6 @/ ]4 O% ?6 r/ v5 u: M& j To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  + ~, m) l1 f$ k# @* ]( `
Bylaw 2000.

10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  2 ~9 ]7 i* `8 H  z
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
5 t; F1 C1 z& ffrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
* m/ y) f4 Q# Z! r1 N. wof voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

  z% P! n  R2 w  {8 k% `, h$ o3 v11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
; @  X' p  N) r1 K3 Q1 Othe course of an election/referendum.5 P6 v8 j  Y; H; y7 R* C: O

7 E+ w) b4 s4 U0 E0 m, q12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
/ ^' y' Z  Q, cprocess is in place.

6 ]3 P  H! o2 b, U) B13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  ( k: D, j2 L7 l6 |# u. c0 g+ d
of activities and recommendations.

- o- }7 u9 E6 o1 B) r14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  8 T; S  j$ K, @1 z6 u

QUALIFICATIONS:1 M% i+ w$ Q& n. S* g

3 F* t( e% ^4 C. Zfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  5 ^( u  n3 U; w6 X) C  L/ C0 p! V
Union member.

/ u* `% i% k3 _2) Must have some experience in student elections.7 }/ j9 `. X8 S) y/ e

3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  ( n2 K9 }& }: A; m" @3 C- T
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.
