! U6 p) V+ z# j3 r3 R8 ?JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
: W; q* J7 H. c" Wthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
, i2 j; M$ ]& K, x; ^. w7 kCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
year following their appointment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

3 M! P. @7 i0 }) Q1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000
0 v# ~  p, r" x
; z3 c2 D$ @  ]' B; P9 |2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

) |5 @. l9 I5 C3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.
) h* g7 q1 L# e# y/ \! `, \
4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.

8 i2 i- J2 _+ R5 E) [. }5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
( r& |. L( x1 Q+ P$ ]referenda.

6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
parties.

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/
6 K* R8 U5 a; g7 p/ `: y* b, Oreferendum.

) i- H5 @3 F4 \1 J- a To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  
+ p3 ]: V+ @7 n4 l( lBylaw 2000.

( R3 Z! C( Z8 [. |6 k10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
6 W% ^$ [3 |: \. {( pminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.

' I. t7 ]  @- r11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
the course of an election/referendum.

5 H1 l: [3 M) S2 m8 j12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  
process is in place.

4 l) O. w8 ^; E13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
' z; I7 s2 K: ?of activities and recommendations.

$ Z* G5 @9 r! G/ j( i* A14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  
of campaigning.
% A4 s2 Y; B$ \% }, ]% x# ~3 A, @
15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  
Administration Committee.


QUALIFICATIONS:
* n0 Q0 c/ k. U4 d
( F9 I9 n' [4 Y& _1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
for each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  
7 j% Q7 R7 H! L6 W: e0 p9 t( @" k* ?. AUnion member.

2) Must have some experience in student elections.

3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
3 e+ L/ b( C7 @# D( l5 g7 B9 Aany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
3 Z$ q2 O2 D- F7 O) c3 Jwith the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

2 Y$ c7 k+ i4 Y! s: X5) Excellent project management skills are required.

! \8 K1 d' `$ z' I5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  
3 H5 n- ]5 C1 d  U$ t  b% sstaff, students and the general public.
