Remuneration: $6,032.00 contract

JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  
& M: Y2 r4 k1 j! Kthe Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  
6 z! z2 `2 @( H: A2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
4 _0 H8 M) j# W' e- L8 y& mCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  ) g) s0 b3 i# I. _
Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
1 ]$ G+ D3 U. Q; ?# ~& H0 m/ e2 Eyear following their appointment.+ e3 m# v6 a% O  @2 Z  L$ E  [

3 {, i# a0 `% e9 Y+ }- bDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

4 w' a/ M1 K% ~/ s2 A1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000; e4 ^2 Q4 n/ ^" Y' |# O0 k$ v
6 W) `4 V6 S- D) G, q! `
2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.
/ D5 q1 P5 @* P: t: Y0 C. e0 A/ ~0 ^4 `1 k4 [+ Y' d. E
3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.( Z5 V/ f# L9 i. G2 t

4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  
0 E- M4 [0 F/ Gadequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  6 k, \3 |/ X  O; X
across campus, and advertising the poll locations.
, v, o2 |3 ^! I4 \/ K' u8 }: U& y; c" H1 w- K8 v
5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
' a, Q" r$ r0 \( i% e/ mreferenda.

, u7 c% e5 ?+ e1 s0 o6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  
9 F) j, \5 P  X8 sparties." R+ Z5 U& a( Q' D( H- {8 u. Q4 p( M

7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/ 9 y; {, W2 G: X
referendum.4 H4 ?* Y; ]- \$ C

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  " h% X% ~2 z/ n3 g
Bylaw 2000.

. p8 O& M6 ]! U1 ~10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  
/ F; E. K+ n. P& ?0 N4 Kminimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
5 [9 H2 c) F+ s1 {from the first working day after nominations close until the last day  6 G: x6 a8 N; @+ J- K
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.
; d5 W" e( c% U7 t2 g- d6 C
4 m! Z4 ~! E5 \) B11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
0 v- [6 R0 {$ c% w) \the course of an election/referendum.; j; C) S" B) I3 a
1 `8 S" F8 q" l+ J# X! `! `- A  b
12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  ; K# Y: D6 B+ b: U& S1 V- R2 l5 h. o
process is in place.1 B& ^  _( K& o$ J

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  
5 p+ X8 T0 a! a. w- U2 H& a; m7 x( fof activities and recommendations.

: R' b) L- E+ m14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  ) n0 K3 A! T8 j# T/ D6 P6 T

15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  " h4 ]' p4 `6 ]/ x8 w

QUALIFICATIONS:: Q, {1 S8 j* q( X

5 O# a, @/ O: o5 {1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
/ Z& t6 E) {3 D1 h7 J( P( vfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  " [8 R! k! `6 m
Union member.
- c3 }) J$ N1 K* h. ?2 u
: [( ?% {  g: K2) Must have some experience in student elections.% s/ B- U9 }) A3 l0 [" N# a, E

- t3 o1 a' r$ U$ c3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  
  [: b  q9 d1 S+ y7 k& eany of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
9 W. |, ^( ?. B7 A# w" `with the Students' Union./ Q/ w  @9 B2 X  z* ^  `6 S4 ^0 m

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.

5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  ! K3 ]5 H; C" O' j) T
