Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
7 M( s$ N" w# {2 cDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works8 c: p6 b7 f' Q2 @ `3 J# X
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
/ T- O* D7 J8 l$ e+ y+ S• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
. s, t4 N6 A3 }8 h( ~• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.6 u9 l( @2 A" Y% Z/ {
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
# H" _: @& v4 {8 H; g• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
( D% P. \3 b7 S& F: p• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.6 ?6 R. h- R, _( \9 A5 i$ S
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.. C( H! b8 U' M# Q! G
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
; u2 U1 N/ }5 q& D5 `; O• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
5 A8 i# j# E, Y) @. f• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
" C5 s# a" S, ]; [7 ~" O• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
6 K9 L# a3 u+ _8 J: E9 c7 B• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.7 |! b* ?0 G& A
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
( H2 z5 V+ U( a9 ~- @• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
5 @0 I% }# ?$ Q/ e2 A4 b• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.- p8 P$ @" I3 O+ q
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

- e0 j' B* D+ T8 A• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
! f5 L" d7 X, O& X7 ~+ ^2 v* \• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.2 V8 b, r7 Q; n6 A) A M3 w% r
Job Requirements:7 ~: B1 ?; X1 Z% W3 i# e
• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.2 m2 M2 {* M5 x$ T" ?5 f# u
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.; d4 ]3 C: d' g( R0 p1 {
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
4 j2 y) x' \' I/ J• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.' r2 i! i. b, q7 y' @0 B
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
7 b# N+ l' q" D j1 p, a _• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
9 H8 \0 ]& t" t% C ^( t& q; g• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
3 R- C0 E/ a/ [( JHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
$ Y8 x6 v1 K) g0 |SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
