Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:4 a) ^, G) L) o* y
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
+ a6 J) a" J1 b/ _5 |4 a• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets." v* |& [0 o& k/ ` p$ I+ H" `1 C
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.( Y3 W o# ? o3 s$ u
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

, d% W4 m0 h3 D& @• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. 7 H/ M6 s/ J; w d$ W+ F
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
4 T6 l) }" u$ p& n G7 g2 N• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
X4 b& C. f- X& c# l3 S• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

( Q1 w9 y' T; o4 v• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.1 X8 D, W4 s8 A9 R- r! O1 f! q( k
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.. x8 D/ j O0 i. V& \" Z$ w
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
{$ n5 m6 R* I+ o. P- p8 e# C/ j• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
& T: D" ]6 M5 m, s• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
1 w8 ^( @' S# `+ p' _8 W+ v' P" x; ~• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.. I @" n U$ E! i" l) L
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.# P- w' f3 w- Y# z0 o \' ~* H6 W
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.6 d. T2 R o' \! S
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.

SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.9 p1 R- [! x; }% r$ E- ?; k* r8 G$ J7 [
