Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:! o7 D# K5 Q& e# ]* y
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
, K8 B+ \( H! b4 g6 J9 D* V! V• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
. L- x# d7 s& C$ g, z8 u• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
7 Q' c; R# h" ?, ?0 [; W• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. $ E% i' {2 L. z5 Q
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
! ]+ \' W% C& W1 h4 v• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.4 i. x! [5 P5 [( o
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.! w# |7 q" }, B# _/ v1 C
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).0 h$ I( I& U5 }; h: e R7 I
• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete. C' a% S0 S7 L) s8 ^; \* F" C
• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
) o9 s4 {3 A) U) c• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

8 R' e& G3 T& S( E$ I• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.

• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.4 X5 ]3 Q. b5 n. s9 p. x
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.! `/ c, t. I% K1 B
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.) L- Q. H0 U2 y, n% b3 s. b
Functions of all positions:

( q; Z; x- F' Z& x• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.0 c) z2 ]; x2 h, y
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.4 n5 T0 q+ h3 a3 @6 ~( h6 @
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
# R0 v* m) T6 O+ x• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
5 \& s! ]; l0 M" Q• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
; f& C3 N0 l# k4 ^9 Y& u, j/ r• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
: z, s) g1 U3 B% ?1 B$ ~6 l! f, x• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.

SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.' M: G5 ^- `8 y$ e: D' f" I9 q; E( G
