- G1 Z+ v! t( ?3 G( X2 xSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
( X7 V2 ]  u/ z$ Z9 N( x; w•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
9 M1 X/ E9 Z6 N/ L•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

: V' r/ b2 M7 h0 T, Q•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
0 t4 w' L* V6 M$ B& O) N5 n•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
) ^/ ]% J+ g8 f% Z•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
* [5 Y! t# x2 D•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
8 V9 l* ~  n( {+ z•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
5 o) i( W) b2 G% Q•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
$ {4 H$ m1 O. b8 s, d0 w•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
( y& N0 N# @7 \/ `0 c•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
2 t4 H" s2 R  a1 L; z3 D•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
* `3 }9 ^0 c$ ]6 x) l- v" I7 b" p1 m•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
' ^; F& n( x4 g6 `  C  V, k•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
4 @6 o+ d0 w: ?  Z' zFunctions of all positions:
0 s6 @0 S2 ?1 d•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
% ?# M. R4 f7 |' [  j( a•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
# d, Y) a: V: ASALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
