Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
+ d) F$ E; d( M/ ?4 A8 s•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
7 a  x; e3 z" ]3 A6 X•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
" i* ~# J5 [5 _# [  v' l6 _+ E•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
* U( k: O5 D+ B: c5 z8 DParks, Asset Management & Public Works
•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
" j, x4 y' ^+ l+ ^; d( R•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
5 }9 o0 N6 P" @, [" c( x•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
9 b. \( O0 C: T. i•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
9 n7 Z! R4 p2 mRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
  p" t2 ?& y, g: P0 @5 p/ I8 t3 K$ n* H•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
6 E9 X! b, Q5 t$ v  z  b•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
: H* s# Z8 ?% t' z3 t•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
0 Y  `' D- h3 X' _5 {•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
, ]/ u& z1 V( r•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:
•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
# _( L8 R7 K0 E4 y•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
9 K0 P& J$ k- `$ w•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
  g& T# W5 ^: q5 v* M•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
+ D) C# w8 b2 G•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
& S9 K1 l2 Y. A7 Z2 H•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
# F0 [4 \: f# i) K* ^HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
