Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:5 V9 E7 P# j* Z; }8 W& f
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
' {8 C3 y2 c. b9 d; S- z. J• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
5 f0 l6 I$ F+ ]. w1 O/ q' V• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.+ R1 m, ^- W8 _1 i% d
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.+ h6 ]7 e" l0 N3 f
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works+ y9 o) g2 P3 {6 B- s( w' O. R- v& ?* H
• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
- \6 z0 x2 o2 }, U2 f9 Q( z• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.' L) Y% y, _* j% {7 O l7 M
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.( s* g0 T8 f8 Z7 }6 x( B
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.* o# ?5 O# f( i
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.7 v3 L; `% ^% S9 C8 T- y" i
• Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.

• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
+ y" ?% ]' M6 P: @, D/ {• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).

Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services( U0 z: R% L W m/ R2 B& H
• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application. `: y) s9 q+ s( b# n
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration. y6 b# v$ L4 o/ |! V) k6 U$ k4 ~$ X
• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.3 ~* ]7 O4 F5 y" K5 _3 y
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.' G4 i9 V5 T g4 Q
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.2 j5 \% C5 E3 Q, U, P' i, o

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.9 D% m: E* X3 v8 i. Z
• Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.+ y! @% L2 M7 R3 o8 v
Job Requirements:+ j: g+ [' n( G* d$ c( n5 t
• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
7 H* f6 v& e- g& t0 @3 W/ K1 \• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
$ A3 J( ^$ m3 N• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.7 ?+ ?. m' ]' Q4 Z8 V
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
- B, `3 M) [. N1 W( h- W• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment./ t) ~- T, s+ @" z3 ]$ ?1 u K' X- Q
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.# J0 e w, \( h! @; U/ _% C
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift. j5 o7 o% ~$ d! r! K
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
3 P( E: U( b" ^ fSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
