Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
, K8 B+ \( H! b4 g6 J9 D* V! V•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
. L- x# d7 s& C$ g, z8 u•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
7 Q' c; R# h" ?, ?0 [; W•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
! ]+ \' W% C& W1 h4 v•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
7 C& N" m- @0 v0 Q6 r" ?- U•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
3 u& @3 {) k. z8 _1 p. KRoadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
6 l7 u! `  ?. I: |•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
) o9 s4 {3 A) U) c•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

8 R' e& G3 T& S( E$ I•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
/ P& e4 E# D9 r& K6 w0 F•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
Functions of all positions:

4 s- H* K( f% I! g7 x1 B1 w# H•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.

( q; Z; x- F' Z& x•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
# R0 v* m) T6 O+ x•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
5 \& s! ]; l0 M" Q•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
; f& C3 N0 l# k4 ^9 Y& u, j/ r•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
: z, s) g1 U3 B% ?1 B$ ~6 l! f, x•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
6 i! \' Z. y. M' A% B* q: Q. ]' K+ n, ?HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
