Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:( U# ~$ g- b3 e' ?; x& F u
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
|& u& B5 r2 |5 V' ]• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
" c! y( I. P' l+ m/ w• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.

V9 Z; F8 B- D5 B• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.5 y7 u, i) a, D
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
( M: ?4 ]2 `4 P/ R' M# K; f9 _• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. * ~, f* E' `' ~) ~9 U7 g
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.- K* y3 O, p: Q' L6 Y4 I
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.- E: X$ W I0 R# s/ }. x" Q# Z
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
; e9 m5 v4 J g; m& M% J' l• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.5 m( I5 _( y) b+ k" H

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.

• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.1 t' M% `3 J8 K: I1 V( t: ?, m
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.. }/ L3 ~ f- ^* m7 p
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

Job Requirements:( B/ k T4 N# B0 Z% _
• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
' o! u: h$ P5 e- v) o9 e& U `• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
+ w: Z4 i/ v, l• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
0 S# n9 X0 s( i3 U# D" f/ N% v• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
/ G4 i0 r3 j# ^# B/ w1 o- m• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
) \& p: U- g! }: u/ ^• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
/ j1 J* k$ E3 t& M1 p• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.2 i0 F$ W* o) B' ]( X: N
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
- w% e# V/ X' s6 aSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.; u! f7 V; U3 J/ z0 c. P
