Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
7 p. ]* a' }" h$ xDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works+ F9 ?; T8 {* q! z9 a- m
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.: y8 y4 S- @; [
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.

[$ Q2 h• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. ) K3 X# g( y. E/ ]& b: S
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.6 l! [( b/ W. G- h
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.# d! {: @% L. A" K$ E4 q, y
• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.8 K; Z# Z1 C# q1 K1 d" I& n: ]
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset." x( v8 v4 N. B/ z
• Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.

• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.

• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.! a" i2 q6 e5 A J
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.( q8 K; Z5 J1 e4 ~0 Q$ m9 y
• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

Job Requirements:+ o* z' S, q6 x) @3 `7 T" H
• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.3 K5 O7 z9 c9 e/ F( x1 m6 o& C
• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
" C8 M# E4 H$ w/ `- S" {8 F5 N- G• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.4 k" }/ C7 q3 c& q4 j
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.7 i& U/ o6 _% |* g1 C! d1 K7 I5 \
• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.

SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
