5 ~( n3 \  Y! @, ^- P6 YSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
, _/ Q, p. s7 U% V- i- c! {•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.
Parks, Asset Management & Public Works
( C; ]/ Y' H. Q) |. ]•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
2 S( I* S& N, F; d•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
% |& A6 |5 o- o& F•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
, C3 X$ y! C  F5 Z•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
( P, F) f( a" U& p' ^/ e•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
% V4 `. W5 T/ R3 G•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
9 u! f7 h; U: e1 _6 b0 QRecreation Facilities Branch, Community Services
•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
3 @% Z+ v: k( e6 ?1 K•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
* q( @' f2 j# n$ \8 S( h8 M1 j•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.
8 {0 h! e# L/ c% DFunctions of all positions:
. e8 W0 u$ m5 {/ k9 c; J•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
! l3 \- B- @$ N" S7 @) M•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
5 n1 C+ T7 g; Z% R# B5 i•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
8 Z( i- `! Q+ ?, R$ X# w•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
. [+ {7 t* K+ I; V•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
: `/ m& K# k, J•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
1 ]8 e  G) c' s•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
