Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:% B3 V* J4 p M6 z1 E
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
+ d) F$ E; d( M/ ?4 A8 s• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
7 a x; e3 z" ]3 A6 X• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
" i* ~# J5 [5 _# [ v' l6 _+ E• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing. 5 U! A5 R( P$ G& L6 m2 j5 r7 o
• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
" j, x4 y' ^+ l+ ^; d( R• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.

• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.

• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.

Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services

• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration., h) n+ |, Z; ]' J
• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.

• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.& a& R4 x( E4 \

• Loading and unloading materials from trucks.

Job Requirements:) M' S" d2 Y$ I; a% w
• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
9 K0 P& J$ k- `$ w• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.( @0 y& ^. ^( u' M1 t6 X+ E7 q
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
g& T# W5 ^: q5 v* M• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
+ D) C# w8 b2 G• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.; ]. n& h3 G% C
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
& S9 K1 l2 Y. A7 Z2 H• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
# F0 [4 \: f# i) K* ^HOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.& P: d% d3 A/ v3 v
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.. P! q5 U- q% e/ c
