8 t$ Z" P5 w J0 q' s0 ~$ VSpecific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
* P; I" i; A$ M+ P; e: M5 lDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works5 _# c! Q- y/ K6 K$ `
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.0 \% U9 d. L2 T
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.1 Q; Q: @8 }( e5 U( k
• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

) w4 Y6 I$ e5 w0 L• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
0 a4 @% H d" d* M• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
( A4 ]; w w. ^3 Y2 t' {5 ]• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
( C8 I' b3 V# }5 @9 t• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.7 I; n, |1 c9 ]5 k
• Pesticide Applicators license an asset.( H/ F6 K0 Z7 a
• Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required. t! E; \+ K% G( V
Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation! o, j: }6 d. s; y
• Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.5 H' B; v" I/ j0 L2 ]4 [
• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
0 C) j/ j4 x, O" A. E• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.

• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.0 n' F, ]% c/ i
• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
: t& A0 r- e0 Z" r: z( V• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
; `0 c( e, D) m- _+ G; M% t• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
" {$ r7 C2 i, ] t* z; ~• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.6 I' ~2 Z+ E. O7 W4 O
Functions of all positions:

• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.

9 a$ m. E9 d* ]) _• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.- o, V7 R; y: `) l/ C: W
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
# Q0 U6 F- K8 Z* g* X! R$ ~; E O• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.% F: L5 @# Z) ^6 f0 b- A9 D; S
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

. c1 ?0 g6 {: q% e/ k N4 C# L: wHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
: U3 O3 b" j9 d. K- k' ?% nSALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
