Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
Drainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works
+ a6 J) a" J1 b/ _5 |4 a•        Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.
•        Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
•        Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

, d% W4 m0 h3 D& @•        Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
•        Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.
4 T6 l) }" u$ p& n  G7 g2 N•        Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
  X4 b& C. f- X& c# l3 S•        Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.
. `: _* b3 W) P2 V7 ~4 W8 h6 F•        Pesticide Applicators license an asset.
- ?3 U$ a6 i) Y- ?+ M( `•        Labourers may be provided with rate up opportunities where required.
% |' X6 |3 L! M) w3 r3 }Roadway Maintenance / Traffic Field Operations, Transportation
# l8 B9 a4 B2 `" Z7 [% a- D•        Asphalt/concrete repairs, cracksealing, and paving.
# |: e- I5 R& f1 O/ {•        Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).
•        Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete.
( e5 Z7 L3 C# t; N4 M. @( C7 U•        Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.
( Q1 w9 y' T; o4 v•        Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.

4 k; W2 H" L' n7 A% C•        Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
8 f9 Z9 u7 t5 W8 Y) ~•        Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
•        Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.
•        Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.
•        Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

( _1 d2 S0 L7 ~•        Loading and unloading materials from trucks.
•        Assisting tradesman and other more experienced staff & performing other related duties as required.
+ J5 C' ]  n- R+ ?2 \" XJob Requirements:
•        Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent.  Must be indicated on application/resume.
  {$ n5 m6 R* I+ o. P- p8 e# C/ j•        Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.
& T: D" ]6 M5 m, s•        Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment.
1 w8 ^( @' S# `+ p' _8 W+ v' P" x; ~•        Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
•        Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
•        Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
•        Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
3 G  ]8 ]) [! @1 uHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position.  These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week.  Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly).  Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
