" k% c% {; L6 C7 ^# ^EDMONTON — Southgate Centre today began a $108 million expansion to accommodate more than 30 new retailers and restaurants.2 o9 y+ {, r% [# e& B6 F: O, p
2 Y, }/ ?8 H( \2 A8 g% AThe two-year project, facing 111th Street, will add 126,000 square feet of leasable space on the ground floor — and two levels of parking above.4 t* X- [. z4 X; t# q
/ R7 L0 g1 ~# l5 `% v" f“Part of the redevelopment will include enhanced site lighting and closed-circuit TV security systems monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Southgate general manager Paul Fairbridge.5 A6 f8 o q9 D J+ [; t; F$ p) r

It also will include hotel-quality washrooms and private sitting rooms for nursing mothers.

Southgate, a 36-year-old mall located south and west of 51st Avenue and 111th Street, now has 130 stores and services. It is owned by Ivanhoe Cambridge, based in Montreal.% D( @* q$ K2 Q
