Lindsay targets rural crime

% c# }7 C% d! N& c9 dFred Lindsay told Sun Media yesterday plans are in the works to increase the number of RCMP officers and special constables patrolling Alberta roads this year. * Q) h2 a! T3 O
5 A8 q1 x) S2 O& w0 X/ sThough any moves have to be approved in the province's budget, Lindsay said he's looking at boosting the ranks of the Mounties patrolling rural Alberta, to help curb a flood of urban organized crime groups, who are moving their operations to rural areas where there is less of a police presence.

* b1 S+ l3 L1 s3 F3 Y, K+ W+ |Chop shops, where stolen cars are stripped for parts, and marijuana grow-ops have all started to sprout up throughout rural Alberta, said Lindsay.
