The Liberals’ first federal budget was released earlier this week, and in it $570-million dollars was allocated for Canada’s tourism sector.

4 M; M9 p  ?  ?6 @6 L3 x$ URoyce Chwin, the CEO of Travel Alberta, tells the Alberta Morning News how some of that money will be spent right here in Alberta.

, h$ z7 P; A! ^& x! q“$83.3-million, in terms of free admission for national parks, so that of course will apply here in Banff and Jasper as an example. It also looks like there’s an investment of about $66-million for new biking and walking trail within Jasper National Park.”

7 {8 x+ v6 H% l# gChwin adds that with the low Canadian dollar he expects we’ll see more Albertan’s traveling within our borders, rather than heading to the States.

& {! n; l" H# [9 C! G“In terms of taking advantage of what’s here, we have made adjustments and improvements to the Canada website, from Travel Alberta. That’s going to show a number of itineraries and road trips throughout the province. Those are great suggestions for Albertans or other Canadians who decide to take a staycation, and want to see something new and different.”

) R4 y$ w/ U6 xIn 2017 all national parks in Canada will be free, to celebrate our nation’s 150th birthday.

+ R/ m2 ]! b2 _$ m1 t8 dChwin says the budget included 20 million dollars in investment for historic sites.

VIA Rail will also get 34 million dollars for maintenance and upgrades.
