6 i" }1 z3 V' F) s' F" _8 G. i　　A hundred leagues locked in ice,

　　A thousand leagues of whirling snow.

　　Both sides of the Great Wall

　　One single white immensity.

( y* P, L9 K9 ]% ]$ e; W/ D　　The Yellow River"s swift current
) e$ _. H6 v/ m4 \  {- Y
1 t& T& x9 t* r' {% F; b6 W) |　　Is stilled from end to end.

4 g1 l) Y& C+ e: m/ I* T　　The mountains dance like silver snakes

) |1 z+ y2 n  S9 N- q9 N2 C, N　　And the highlands* charge like wax-hued elephants,

　　Vying with heaven in stature.

　　On a fine day, the land,

) f+ M1 _( h: c5 p: `　　Clad in white, adorned in red,

　　Grows more enchanting.

　　This land so rich in beauty

  d) u. {% K# P& \1 H　　Has made countless heroes bow in homage.

　　But alas! Chin Shih-huang and Han Wu-ti

# }( i0 [  T4 U3 U　　Were lacking in literary grace,

* s7 A  N1 X/ f! \　　And Tang Tai-tsung and Sung Tai-tsu

　　Had little poetry in their souls;
　　And Genghis Khan,

. Q& o* F4 f( ~. z4 ~! f) m  O　　Proud Son of Heaven for a day,

　　Knew only shooting eagles, bow outstretched
