EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.
- ~" q$ p% }3 Z3 V& ~) b6 l H- q% {- C# G$ a" s$ L( \! V
The item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.
0 g7 l, L! U) g& i5 p$ p; T4 L: h% n( @, H; e
Police evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.
$ l. d6 z$ n9 y# S
. t$ e$ o) e4 ^. Z, |"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."0 n6 B) z" k8 l1 F9 n

The mall fully reopened around 10 a.m. |
