EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

) l0 f# M# E- X2 z- J. |, ?# NThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.

5 v# d& `* z0 c7 @Police evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.5 H6 C+ W; }# h3 F9 H
, ^! J5 i9 ~2 ^# J. x"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."+ N) R% J! |) f2 y: O7 ^) t# T( w
