EDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

a* b( Y% T$ k) F% N9 d* @' U3 x0 WThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.( @/ m( Y& P( L' J. P" ^, l& P, p
* n! o: J$ s( X8 v s( FPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall." C! o6 I2 u. W& t! y9 t
