Edmonton home builders say they are working non-stop to meet a demand they haven’t seen since the boom of 2005.

6 x- o: b% {! bBuilders started construction on 468 new single detached homes last month, a 34 per cent increase from August 2013.* _) s. _* l& e- M
& d( [6 r2 N, l8 u“Right now we're running flat out, we’re building as much as we can,” said Rob Busby, construction manager for Landmark Homes.8 ^' @* k) e; e3 z

The increased demand is due to strong job and population growth, according to Christina Butchart, senior analyst with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.* x, D( [ ?) t0 }8 J5 m3 @, r
. w3 H1 F$ P$ Y2 Z# L9 Y“If you look at the number of people who are moving into Edmonton, it’s record high levels so that’s contributing to that expanding demand,” she said.
