% _: \4 r, `; h* y  F5 @, S* F
- p" ^, {  d- ^0 g. V& g(1) You can not teach an old dog new tricks ── 照字面意思是:你不能教老狗学新的把戏。 (Some people find it impossible to change their ways; or older people can not accept the changes or new ideas.)
' t* q; D1 W6 Y8 w* I1 t" c% r, n" ?! F- T- p, T
Stop trying to teach an old dog new tricks; you are just wasting time.(别想教老狗新花样,你只是白花时间。)
; M* c! G+ ]( t5 ^  T4 b6 t" sAre you trying to teach an old dog new tricks? * y3 b" ^" `4 J+ q
He is impossible. Don't try to teach an old dog new tricks.(impossible 是指顽固成性、墨守成规的人。) % F$ `4 |9 ?9 |- ], }4 g
I have tried teaching an old dog new tricks, but it doesn't work.(注:教狗不直接用 teach,要用 try to teach。) 4 H! u, G  R" g, s$ n  Y1 U( E5 n

6 f+ F0 S! \" f$ S3 |0 [(2) All that glitters is not gold. (not every beautiful thing is valuable. All is not gold that glitters. E" k
0 `  Q; l; i7 a4 |
I told my students that all that glitters is not gold. ) R: K0 T2 `5 }8 c

# l5 l. M* [, K' I# |Don't judge a book by its cover. % K6 H- L, q7 m) N; j' x: e
  y3 e. H& s: \( T/ W
(3) Pepole (或 Those) who live in glass houses should not throw stones (或 rocks) ── 照字面的意思是:住在玻璃屋里的人不可丢石头。 (Nobody is perfect, so we should not criticize others.) Z3 x! r: T& ^9 E3 y% v
9 T7 y- y- G+ P4 `& O/ n
Don't judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes.
0 o% u& P" J$ _  }1 J4 [(judge = criticize; have walked a mile in his shoes = have understood his situation well enough)
, Y! Q7 e% _: z1 G4 p: b另一句是:   ~4 a9 n( C3 g4 K
" a. G( U1 w6 \1 i( s, S6 f: W0 p1 l6 Z
Judge not lest ye be judged. 就是: ) P/ b5 ^4 ]3 A* N$ ~! I% L7 Y
If you criticize others, you probably will be criticized ,too. ) v( a7 Q. g0 z' j3 p5 v& [
  s( @" H) z. I2 S0 B& x
所以我们也可以说: , n, I; F. L. d" C, ~3 C8 W
He told his children“Judge not lest ye be judged.” $ r2 T; N: n# x' x
4 [+ d' s4 O! @9 d" [) M4 L
(4) It is more blessed to give than to receive.
7 V( g! o: d9 B& v1 r2 X6 j
Especially during Christmas time, it's more blessed to give than to receive.(尤其在圣诞时更要助人)

- Q6 a, a/ ]+ |2 D& y  N9 V! W( [* d0 }8 e$ r# _
Don't be so grumpy and pessimistic because every cloud has a silver lining.
/ _, a& c, D! _
" S( |5 y4 k8 ]( M+ x" u$ A(6) A rolling stone gathers no moss. (One who is always on the move or changes jobs often will not save or keep much money.)

(You can encourage, but not force, someone to do something; or you may give someone an advice, but you can't force him /her to follow it.) 例如:
9 h. b* k. T, M" E% a1 q. L5 R: i: g% ]$ P/ B# u6 P# l9 k  p

X$ B9 f, i* p% I  r

# i; c; y" d+ V  K8 }4 z. L9 BIf you are spending all your money on that stock, you are putting all your eggs in one basket.(假如你把所有的钱投资在一种股票上,那就太冒险了。)
