2 ^) ^: r1 ?$ ]. e/ t! {8 _

# J/ {$ V4 N) ?1 s% y6 H7 l6 l$ T/ _) q2 G+ F5 Q, O
(1) You can not teach an old dog new tricks ── 照字面意思是:你不能教老狗学新的把戏。 (Some people find it impossible to change their ways; or older people can not accept the changes or new ideas.)
; B/ T- B+ a8 V3 [/ h8 z
Stop trying to teach an old dog new tricks; you are just wasting time.(别想教老狗新花样,你只是白花时间。) ' z4 d5 E$ D4 ^. T1 U
Are you trying to teach an old dog new tricks?   C/ n9 U$ g7 b- s
He is impossible. Don't try to teach an old dog new tricks.(impossible
4 a5 x; g+ c% l. \, p. oI have tried teaching an old dog new tricks, but it doesn't work.(注:教狗不直接用 teach,要用 try to teach。) ' N5 U" `4 F; a

0 `4 s4 D( S4 ]( ~(2) All that glitters is not gold. (not every beautiful thing is valuable. All is not gold that glitters.
% D9 X8 s, v# G- m+ X% \& U- I+ w4 n1 S. e6 f3 R4 R
I told my students that all that glitters is not gold. & W- F/ Y5 C7 I9 n- b8 C
, n/ M4 I1 B' V, a
( g$ i8 g1 ]6 J; X" _0 S0 GDon't judge a book by its cover.
4 V! ~  @6 J8 q9 i1 b) _' R
  q. Z0 V1 g8 S( k1 D5 t. V) z% f5 b(3) Pepole (或 Those) who live in glass houses should not throw stones (或 rocks) ── 照字面的意思是:住在玻璃屋里的人不可丢石头。 (Nobody is perfect, so we should not criticize others.) 类似的,还有: : l1 i8 H* M2 I/ W, A: K. y5 g

& \& O) C) A/ J4 N% t0 h8 sDon't judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes. . e# w. ~0 N4 `* A
(judge = criticize; have walked a mile in his shoes = have understood his situation well enough) ( C  j9 q5 ~0 e& ^, S
' O# k/ P7 R7 l) `, w$ f; P& c* f4 H
Judge not lest ye be judged.
If you criticize others, you probably will be criticized ,too. / F$ C5 M0 i5 i4 r4 M
$ t, ]: ?) d. U- ]/ O3 S

+ d1 F; Q' a2 _
(4) It is more blessed to give than to receive.

4 d9 |% }" d; Q; z- bEspecially during Christmas time, it's more blessed to give than to receive.(尤其在圣诞时更要助人)
( A; B8 @3 g) l! l0 B& o7 ^+ TThe longer I live the more I realize that it is more blessed to give than to receive.(我活得愈久,愈体会到施比受更有福。) / K4 a7 @& h7 t0 k

/ ^7 O# D* ~, z* h1 }
- R1 [6 x  k1 E5 X6 \& Y! ?Don't be so grumpy and pessimistic because every cloud has a silver lining.

(You can encourage, but not force, someone to do something; or you may give someone an advice, but you can't force him /her to follow it.) 例如: 8 E8 N3 P8 A( I. f# ^: \
