8 n9 D3 a9 y9 i( h! F
+ G, s4 _  N, A# V% b        1. I couldn't care less. 1 d0 r& N- I" G* [. B: c

I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如: - r$ u& j1 C2 g

8 k4 M5 x$ }& X0 z0 e0 Y3 y& S8 R# ? What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?) 2 q5 Z  c/ E( a) F: \

# C9 r5 @9 N4 K  J7 b7 o# F  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎)
5 b+ i2 B0 O+ k+ e8 T# o4 o1 J% B, x/ _- K# A
  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
6 L1 R- Q8 G  ~4 P, L, k- I6 U  U9 K
0 ?; X2 @$ f/ {  F* s  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) ) e7 ]) h# M3 o$ T8 t+ l- e

; W7 h3 O# C/ c% H9 v' S/ y# O
2 z% V5 E) `/ T: H6 ]' f2 Y  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) 7 W; g& c6 f9 y; m
% ~2 e4 X+ d6 C) Q# Y& ^& R& w
Yes, you do(care).
7 R+ a0 h5 u, h* |8 d: N  y! \2 C# C6 Z/ _9 q
I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
/ L& [6 I9 H- x1 H# {: V
3 m* h& ]# W3 f# l( K  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
& h4 m# w+ e+ D: N; s3 `' D3 N/ x1 ^$ \% ~, r
  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
2 r$ a  p, t1 e! ~: y( h% F! x; K8 o' ?' ~8 K& i' O8 V* v
  I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. 1 o8 C) U( w2 z, l/ z) }. t

1 {  M/ F4 S' C& y$ G% ?5 I
9 Y, U2 l" t3 y$ N4 j& {9 |9 V* g
  f1 M) m% p  j) G8 Z  I couldn't be more wrong. 1 i" f! q7 _% l" S$ f% w& h
/ l# C" w( h3 O- H( C# ?

I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) ) m2 f( ?* ~+ p9 W5 A6 _7 J
" p. N1 S) y. ~0 l4 w- D6 ]  H
  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) ! S, p/ Z, M" Z6 ]$ x+ B
& Z' e9 ~# n$ }; v& N! l# D
  2. No bones about it. $ E0 V. N' B5 j( l1 l

3 o2 c; K% Q% }" M$ _  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如: 3 O2 ]$ Q$ |! i7 X, {. M$ H+ p6 z

; b* n7 d4 v: B  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
# |/ p$ S0 |1 x# t! r8 {* R$ D9 f; z- s+ \4 s' X3 I% K; d% u
  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
( i( a1 _: \" ]9 b/ |  N$ w" e* N, j6 N! H2 N) z2 {
  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
7 |: R" ~) i9 u' d4 z
6 t$ v: m( K. V, Q9 Z  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
+ k; }* ^; B8 K# \; C9 ~* r6 d
8 B6 @7 o2 b/ Q9 d( P  X0 l  3. take it on me! # F0 q5 P: }9 C* [& X: S

$ O% @6 n  T0 Q* ]3 ]8 ^' T  r3 f) r  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: 2 ~8 n( L8 s0 \/ z" j( a6 I& Y5 `# y" R
+ }- I  S$ X8 o
  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy) + G$ Q3 `7 s9 |. J( |7 ~
5 ?. ]( W; ]$ n% Z5 D% e" t( Q: T" K
  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
" T1 O$ e$ I) Q+ T2 j; s1 |- f+ V# h+ I
  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!) / F" @, h3 ~9 a, w  Z9 w) Y

8 X# [" L0 x: y4 b  可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。 ; K0 R. Y+ }' ?; ?; d8 P& S! R
* J. X: q! B+ K$ D! E6 i
  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.)
3 M9 g9 T: c  ^8 |6 p/ s) r/ u, b( ^  q9 Y
  4. I am from Missouri.
! q, G  ?3 w3 ~0 I4 k5 ]$ y; J0 n, t( @4 }
  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
& e/ N7 w0 {$ u5 ^( a7 X! R6 C6 q6 y
4 _8 o  o) a: }. w" a
2 }/ |6 l( v$ r  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri.
) l) n1 [, V: u! Q; R
% F: X) O' A7 w! o; N  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.)
9 I8 m4 n- Y$ a  B+ k0 z0 |/ P, t+ D. ^& E
  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown.
. L4 ~0 i0 P# J- s" @7 k) r# S+ \5 z* i& \( A% d
  As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
