; H$ g0 }5 z7 n: c# L. L# q, p3 e3 A" g
5 h' [' W4 z1 N( B4 b        1. I couldn't care less.
! w, N. d! I$ V, \
. a" D4 B) z; R) o' C 这句话的意思是“我不在乎”,“缺乏兴趣”(lack of interest),也就是:I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
4 i9 P" W& s" B0 h9 ^$ Y% u
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?) # r$ h  X2 ~1 ?# Y& ?& `
9 O$ I! p. }" X- Y
. X: r$ M+ n, U6 r0 T: t. e2 L" n0 B: O5 d/ O% j$ J
  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?) 6 o8 P: h2 g7 A" |( a
9 j. }3 x% j/ F/ F) E$ S
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) * R$ m6 }- M" W( X
2 |- d  i+ Y' j$ h
@* |' C8 l$ p* b* S

' ^0 h/ m1 R8 Q7 l7 ^/ J I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪)
6 h7 r3 o4 v& v/ Y  P$ u5 S) M4 Z% O0 u* T! [3 v' d& z9 L' n
Yes, you do(care).
( D7 \6 s8 i; W! n" [3 M8 U% T# o* j& }5 |( r0 j9 z
I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理: . i* C+ W% m, [  D

8 i  z+ K. f2 o1 F6 o! i5 U I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意) . s3 T* C. D1 v3 |; l7 j
) y+ c3 k  g6 f1 I; \$ R
I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
/ {; [( f/ M4 e' t: p/ h9 [
0 T( ~" y: q) T0 T$ a3 d I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. . n  O# |( z7 i7 z6 j  O# E$ j

# r& }1 Q# B) W
  I couldn't be more wrong. , m# _8 _$ i7 F/ b0 W/ u  D1 x& r

I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) 3 C) R9 W3 h/ \$ m4 I  `
* t7 I, t& N* U* E# F0 d: R
  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。)
  ]+ W( k% e) _7 D
6 F2 }1 j. R. s1 J7 g& z9 v+ E 2. No bones about it.
& b$ ]5 T' E) K( F+ w; r; |0 W
. n4 h$ v+ L  ~3 d+ @4 R 意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如: : B, ^$ P. [2 a7 |, z

0 |) ^, Y) @3 v' E His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
- z! I0 `4 u  Q& [! b* `
- f' ^* f! g  r8 y' }: H Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。)
0 m' d6 G( D" f4 ~3 h
: C( W$ M- X% q" \7 H6 U When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
4 @* f% f0 f, ^: Z% e, s
; g8 |7 J0 T! \ No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了) 6 |/ B1 d3 E1 }8 e; s: c& F5 v
8 z: [4 O5 s* Z' o; s) v: q2 A
  3. take it on me!
3 T9 k% e8 L1 }8 s; A& g5 u
- Y& y8 q  `; o7 _ 意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如:
+ A5 m& J' ^: P4 J
" {' ~4 k: C' K2 t Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (这是来自英国的糖果,尝一个吧!) (one = candy)
2 I- `- m! d9 m) K% i5 C7 V0 k4 j) A$ H5 c8 X
The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
1 k3 _& p; T( h* C. t/ @5 q4 E. ]8 H1 K
  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!) # d1 V: Q" I9 @
$ y% N, W# Y% x7 Q: V
; i% |0 l; a% L- L! i2 |

$ @- A! n6 A* Y  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) 7 `0 M$ u5 T6 c
  i* p( m9 n  b+ S( l& Y
  4. I am from Missouri.
2 o; G+ [; K" Y8 |
# Z1 {5 @4 d0 ?8 m/ j 这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。
4 _/ r! M9 _5 P% _: ]1 v/ i5 @3 J
~- N' e2 [$ F

2 N" y. [. I( p/ z  o, r$ J2 Y' r" p He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri.
3 B# I* v/ N; ?& K3 r4 m' g9 {+ s% u# @" Z7 g. q7 B& b7 f" n
Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.)
  [: O& T  r# z: p$ A7 [, n% Q4 E
  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown. / w+ s5 |& i) s* N% v

( D! l5 u1 @5 S- m2 z3 G- L* h As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
