- j: v2 E- K4 ~( V1 g1 \
' h, }5 a( I  R( z: C        1. I couldn't care less. / @  a& X3 D" ?
( N% r: l  D5 {; G0 {. }: }& c1 W5 q
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
9 `1 |5 y' t% m3 i# ?0 a* X' a! f' r2 o; @+ S! C: q/ \& D
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?) / L: ^1 s$ o$ U+ e
, G% C' G2 k1 N, X" n3 e. P8 a
  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎) : f8 H2 i, L" v, C9 T  W

/ c8 B+ a5 K. e  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?) 7 W: N- {: c" |- d- e. G% _

( [2 [& U7 ~9 R  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) - O* A" H$ Q2 l0 Y0 k, A* w& m
, Z; m+ v: W% d% @
* ]4 T4 K# J: r0 `
6 X# }5 f7 o: F7 j& B+ x3 _  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) , k+ G. ?) {% u+ w/ _

Yes, you do(care).
6 \& K7 N3 _# A7 I, F
% g/ I1 C. B% m# g$ I) Y  至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理: , C# ]  H" t  g* o" c9 @
* S& ]& S4 t9 r8 w2 ]6 M  a+ S
  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意)
# J% k: D7 C' \0 _- s4 t, `: h( D+ p8 s1 b2 E$ L9 i
  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴)
/ a# B1 ^# ?6 ?; B' X! ^0 d$ k
9 U- B3 b2 g8 Q* ^! R  I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right.
, A& {% @4 a% V( b

9 k5 v$ d9 z5 e6 Y  g3 a$ b  I couldn't be more wrong.
' U) b" O5 V5 H' ~$ W
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少) 4 @9 f# O+ [. P0 R. x
- v+ ], b& e+ h/ r& A6 d
  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) " j( z6 f& G; \; E* @0 A
1 W4 w8 y+ e7 x( ~
  2. No bones about it.
: {0 o$ x! u' h5 F* J* v5 c1 L2 |8 i+ Y1 A  N1 B% S  ]
  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如: 6 w, Q" p1 E$ U! B) k1 g' @# R

  p/ Z9 ]' H8 A$ G( W% a3 a  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮) ( O% L# U+ W9 X- V0 L

) H" v& m6 w5 W4 I- v  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。) 9 t" {: L& }% m& x) ^4 E  |7 x9 a9 N4 n
* w6 S( M( {2 D( [5 I( U# T; y2 y  s
  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法)
6 r' A, ^6 u7 f4 v0 k
) |. M6 k* n. R/ W5 t% f4 U* Z7 `  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)   ]! o- d7 w$ q$ L8 C
) S/ h3 r$ {4 Y2 |" f' A  ]
  3. take it on me!
/ m& q& x, K! H' a1 O
4 Y6 I: A9 w" m: W$ P  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如:
& J6 y/ }% @: S% D. Q; W
4 U/ Q, y/ M2 X, G+ C' i3 n  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (这是来自英国的糖果,尝一个吧!) (one = candy) 6 t# Z0 ~5 t/ g; ?% J' }
3 k! t4 v) x) J' y! @7 L( x' Y2 f( X
  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me."
7 K, c4 i/ S+ M& P$ u  u- G8 i# Q$ _5 F% ]! j
  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!) ! N8 P! a8 L1 b6 A

# J8 l2 C0 C$ V# L" z  可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。 8 C, H% ~" G$ s* F! y: T5 ^! K; g
2 S5 f2 Z$ c3 G; u7 k! E* F* O$ l
  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) . ?, S( V4 y: r( }4 L
# L" P, }! n1 t( d( v1 W
  4. I am from Missouri.
) ]2 @4 P3 T6 l: |
1 x& I2 w+ T; Q3 k; h1 r) x2 L; h( H$ ?+ D  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。 3 m2 p- Z8 `. Q9 X" j2 ~' K: I

# ]- ~# E1 [, V( v, f; [
4 B) R4 U3 i( _+ b  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri.
) l% j1 r' h7 G# y6 T* g5 s' q) U5 z" H& E
  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) ! [0 w' m% z8 Z. A/ l/ j0 r3 `
1 l9 h) u8 G6 M
  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown.
# k# V8 D1 G8 e2 i& T: ?1 ?) H$ l7 r
  As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
