- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed, and plan best sequence of operations
4 U1 t! u8 P2 {/ a4 H/ Y* j- Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces4 F, c9 P2 L$ C1 s8 h, s3 Y( M
- Set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision, non-repetitive machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, planing, drilling, precision grinding and other operations
, X& U) e+ ]7 X3 b V# X- Cut, bend, roll, ream, punch, drill, weld or otherwise shape and form metal stock into parts or products
" {! p4 u3 F( x! H/ Z: t6 F. }- Operate machines or equipment which weld, solder, bolt, screw or rivet metal parts together

- Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments6 I9 x( B# B& |
- Troubleshoot, perform corrective action or minor repairs

Required Qualifications
W4 b! I0 u. Y. ? z% J4 k0 F* x% t! q/ T
- Completion of secondary school or a minimum of eight years work experience
/ b1 }) i; c9 i0 b e" a! b6 A. c, w- j- Completion of a four-year apprenticeship or training program or a combination of over four years of work experience in the trade and some college or industry courses in machining
# y, L8 }7 g' I- e/ w( }- Skills in programming, set up, operation and maintenance of machine tools2 s7 t2 t. {' j
- Proficiency reading, interpreting and identifying errors on shop drawings" }! n1 } b! e* [8 w& L
- A strong understanding of computer assisted drafting and manufacturing principles
: S4 t: Y2 ~+ `# [- Able to work with fine tolerances and use a wide variety of measuring equipment $ o8 e# y; [( V$ e
- Basic English communication skills8 ^) X) @1 h' g! A/ J G9 ~
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals5 B3 m6 Q/ I0 A( }' g" K6 j

- Trade certification for machinists is an asset
