Position Profile Heavy Duty Mechanics inspect, service, and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.

Diagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
Operating machinery in a safe and effective manner
Providing daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
Assembling and starting engines
Diagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
" V) ?* W1 i* P) y7 C/ y  mPreparing inspection, work and maintenance reports

Frequently lifting weights up to 50 pounds

Physical work, sometimes outdoors in extreme weather conditions
Regular exposure to dust, pollen, fumes, noise and vibrations
Working shifts, sometimes away from home
Basic technical knowledge of diesel

. W+ x+ k" l( V+ |/ x7 CVisual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.
