Position Profile Heavy Duty Mechanics inspect, service, and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.

Diagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
Operating machinery in a safe and effective manner
4 \& T* q( C" {6 u8 GProviding daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
" L0 \9 r/ A3 j& m4 l% R6 ?$ ^Assembling and starting engines
- B& j/ Q' g  h3 U5 v* a$ S7 b. ODiagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
Preparing inspection, work and maintenance reports

Welding skills
Using measuring devices and understanding visual displays
& H' t/ I+ A: Y- n. t  E% TMay need current, valid drivers license, CDL, and locomotive engineer certification
7 g! j2 P& ?2 M% I; t3 X; ^" EVisual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.

This is not a Red Seal apprenticeship.
