Alberta College is governed by an independent Board of Governors ' d, O% X% l: f) X$ q9 B$ a3 t
drawn from a wide cross-section of the community. Established in
9 A7 ~3 C: b# W1903, Alberta College predates both the City of Edmonton and the
0 `5 N: |# v& ]* X3 F2 }Province of Alberta. It was founded by concerned citizens as the # m: y7 q# }% L8 z
first post-secondary school in the area, on land bequeathed by * x( \5 W) j2 a
pioneer George McDougall for educational purposes. The College 5 I, a9 o9 D! X% T9 G

and its main purpose was to prepare young students for % t8 g$ Q2 r7 Y) E

transfer to McGill University.
