The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition, f+ i$ m& X1 r; r' D
Roles and Functions
) u0 {( ~6 W8 q" U- f( X7 UThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
1 S: j2 v+ I. x' {$ W0 v# b0 Torganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
/ b2 {7 C& r& xoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
6 u7 _6 d& K ^7 ~9 v% ?6 Mthe important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,# L6 o% X$ {8 K% j# D) _ F
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular4 S$ L7 @) n( _% g: x
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is$ R T$ Z% P. X. f f; U. b
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
4 A: H2 V4 f2 }4 Y7 gemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
0 s- f& a, k3 _+ W {4 h1 n. tstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend8 ~9 w. o6 s6 `4 s5 Q7 a, A% }/ I
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:3 j/ s1 B, h7 w6 [$ ]: ^
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the. {5 g- S: s$ p- p
officers of the Coalition
" ]9 b, H5 ?3 w: X! ~# `2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
6 ~. n) w# y, s- W9 sorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations/ _, u+ \( Q9 l! [* f7 \) c
and public institutions% i0 u4 x4 p/ m8 G& I
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
) |, X- E( P5 J: S; h' C) ^funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives: `, S2 D! @- V: K6 r+ V- s
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community+ v5 L3 ^& h* p( X# M1 c9 u# i
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with
( d- E: l5 E) ?+ v) c8 f# }3 F% J- E; Hthese organizations+ O+ K2 q. @0 i) m6 q9 \
5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community7 h5 ?2 R% H% l: C# A* E

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic

Administrative responsibilities:
7 [/ p2 N* `3 n) J) p1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its- @& a5 s; q0 P2 ?+ t+ Y! r
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of* U7 z( |! d- i7 _! j- e5 R {
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
& n; f4 X$ n4 P; l k, q8 j& J L$ G* {members of the Coalition’s financial condition.+ `* |0 z/ I, Y1 q2 \9 u
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
|+ F ]+ U6 i6 d( B4 UMulticultural Coalition
2 c7 @, l N& CRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
3 w) \( Z5 N4 vAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to
0 C! ^( ~" K/ e( i; \implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
( J u, v+ W' l; t: Uoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.( o9 ~( j2 g3 f- x, R# U
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and# L) V0 u+ I. z, O! s6 B5 }2 p% w
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should; |0 j) @$ u) I# k" r1 K# i# ]
be noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
# D3 P, F: F! [6 {4 lparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
6 z. s0 v4 J5 |+ lfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of
- Q' H& E* ^2 k* d" X7 E4 D6 A" Qdirectors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
5 [; X7 G, h6 W) Hstatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all
& c6 N P4 H2 Z- y a Y! gmatters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of0 Y8 ?& n# K# M; ~2 P
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of) S# z& Y: J4 b

Pay Range & Terms
