3 a) [' e3 R0 w3 tThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
; a3 J2 P3 y7 m( J8 a3 ERoles and Functions
' d7 A& w- o7 l0 Z+ x* L3 C" sThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the/ n* G% O: j) u2 ~- x# `
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
d. {+ @$ c. }7 l/ Poperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
7 ?! m/ J/ q! U3 a, J$ _the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
2 f) T0 @0 a1 M& J0 A, x, ]5 ~+ Noperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular* O) P% V Y" F- q1 B# n1 D, w
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is) _) m4 T1 H S6 |8 H5 l
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an: n1 U3 i1 g- v2 o8 o* }* H
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
9 }( F8 K7 W6 b5 e/ Rstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
, V! N4 l p4 ^2 m) ^, U$ y& t @all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:) k9 s$ p% V! D; ^ P/ w
The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:; z( Z D2 \! `- _& l# n! |
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the
9 `" D- D8 Q5 m% Q) }3 o* H1 Nofficers of the Coalition) p* y4 y% _! k! B# X
2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural% _( d, E% K1 N2 Y2 C' T
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations7 d3 G) t8 ]- z8 _" R4 J. j: `
and public institutions: t" g& i& q# t5 ~
3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
! d$ S3 ?2 {, c. L' Y( Z4 P* k& Gfunding opportunities and maintaining initiatives' L3 p) \! I5 \ Z+ p' p7 a
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community2 v/ @+ T6 r7 b' R$ Q% h# G* m c
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community& ?; O+ C; x Z+ U" K6 D
leaders

3 E1 k0 u+ z5 q# i1 xparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

6 X/ u/ T0 ^' ?6 \with groups and communities with culturally, ethnically and linguistically. [; N# R* c- r0 ~9 x

Administrative responsibilities:; q$ i3 Z' F9 j& p
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
8 [7 v9 N U$ i2 S5 [# {regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
( G4 Y- @9 O: K0 zdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
7 F3 X" K% w" f+ }$ W! |3 U! d1 imembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
; j5 i( F2 T; d- t3 R! j2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
O4 K0 V0 }0 iMulticultural Coalition% f. ~3 e! V7 m1 f4 r }! \
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
% m, l2 S8 M! f( v: ^% ZAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to( j5 ]* z9 D1 @* f$ X
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
1 ~% ^" ] o- q- p" v/ V3 {+ r( zoperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
* e7 d1 e6 |/ H3 a% @: vThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and' x ^. i( ]2 G' I3 U+ s. @
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
% ~( E: v: B+ u2 Kbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
3 T7 I2 `4 ]8 [participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
+ P* [8 F, G+ t) pfacilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of& |! z: F# x' k% k7 _
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial
8 d3 e; j4 B7 a; z9 istatement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all/ B" Z" z* @! M' }/ Y
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
/ O5 e% H5 F# sdirectors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of
