& G. s# {1 w$ r  fDirected by and starring Stephen Chow (周星馳), Kung Fu Hustle is a delightful blend of comedy and martial arts, aided by computer-generated effects alternately gorgeous and ridiculous.  It is also the top-grossing Hong Kong film of all time: underwritten by Sony Pictures with a deliberate focus on the export market, it marked an important milestone in the ongoing globalization of Hong Kong cinema.  And the visual style, like its financing and marketing, is global in scope, equally at home quoting anything from Bruce Lee to Stanley Kubrick, mo lei tau farces to Hollywood action blockbusters, Shaw Brothers kung fu flicks to Warner Brothers cartoons.
