and  therapeutic  counseling  services  to  help  immigrants  and  refugees  settle,  integrate  and . g+ H$ o2 m' ]5 I9 n/ |6 b) M
adjust  to  life  in Canada. We work with  individuals,  families and communities  to promote  full * W. o( [5 i9 N, q* h  \
participation  in  society,  and  to  create  opportunities  for  the  experiences  and  skills  of
1 t' g( }- x, G0 J$ u0 onewcomers to strengthen and enrich their life in Canada.

4 D; {0 J$ R9 R9 y3 w; L  Primary  purpose:      The  Social Worker works  in  partnership  with  settlement  workers  or 4 f5 a2 G0 l9 W! j( D6 n8 o  t( T, t
community  cultural  brokers  from  New  Canadian  Health  Network  partner  organizations  to ; ]3 j4 a: m5 P; J3 K
provide supplemental support to newcomers who have complex needs.

" w9 R$ s" L, G0 V, X$ B1 W  Nature of Work: The Social Worker will  report  to  the manager of mental health services.  ! q  b# |9 d* L* Y9 P( B
The position builds working relationships with New Canadian Health Network partners’ staff,
$ X7 U7 L; H- i% qnewcomers accessing these services and other institutions and service providers. The Social
3 x  ]  N7 Y/ P. t+ q: ?Worker will  assist  in  case  planning,  conferencing  and  providing  support  and  advocacy  as
' t3 v; X& ?+ l% M5 r+ Uneeded.    As  required,  the  Social Worker  will  assist  in  accessing  community  supports  for 3 q( {& P* u/ q3 J5 b& Z' x
newcomers  and  their  families.  The  Social  Worker  provides  holistic  and  flexible  initial
; a' I% a& O5 f# b# S+ massessment  of  life  circumstances,  needs,  goals  and  aspirations  and  adheres  to  the  client-
% a5 R/ d; m4 U$ r) W" [centered delivery model.

  Understands and adheres to professional ethics related to social work. 5 Z; {+ @2 h8 J/ a1 o+ t7 y& P0 F% c
  Accesses comprehensive, up-to-date information about services and resources available
4 m- ^+ l. J6 H  P3 `, n& C7 @+ zwithin the city of Edmonton and New Canadian Health Network partners. ' ?2 K. K' j/ ?1 m/ Y* y8 g
  Providing holistic information or advocacy services for immigrants and refugees served.
  g! o4 M# D* |$ Z, X1 r5 h  Developing of social networks and community supports for newcomer families. # W2 K" @# m8 M3 t
  Provide intake, needs assessment, referral, case plans and action plans to support 6 t4 Q# J! l6 V0 c
newcomers in settling and fully participating in community. , N* M- b' m" C  n% J; m
  Work in partnership with settlement workers or cultural brokers to provide supplemental
' K1 P) ^7 i7 z. jcase plan support for clients who have complex needs.
$ C! K( j- v% r2 Q: g2 ^% V  Advocate on newcomers’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers. " T: m) g  r. f. A6 B" l. d
  Treat all clients with dignity and patience in order to listen deeply and give thoughtful  9 s( l% J2 W; x5 N# J
service.

Qualification 5 x+ |0 t1 I( k, Q: y, [

# n$ D# b+ |* b' v5 g0 b7 \* q, T' Z  Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and 4 Y- X' e& z+ L1 n7 W: s
experience in Social Work or related human service fields. - n9 i$ A5 [* K
  Extensive knowledge of community resources, including in depth understanding of family ) P5 W& H/ ~  [; A; e; i2 C. s
support needs 1 R2 ?+ }. {7 h
  Experience/facility with MS Office computer applications
* S, s, D2 w1 ]* F7 S8 w  Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages
: L# S: L: f; B: s$ r) c& ~  Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate 8 L9 v: N8 z3 z: u% M+ B) ]& _& g# ]
insurance coverage for work 6 u1 E( G5 K6 p

Experience:  Minimum of 3 years experience working in a related field
' M7 L. r+ I$ k2 k( Z% g1 S: a, Y1 P1 |

% G" e0 }1 q1 s2 [7 {! m! K  Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and strong commitment to providing quality services to 2 b/ x. V& `6 v6 Y3 n* Z$ ~% n

  Flexibility in terms of scheduling, including evenings and weekends at various locations : i7 j& m# K( C( E: L5 ?: d4 k
  Previous experience in working collaboratively with staff from partner organizations
