The successful Executive Director (ED) will combine a woman centered perspective, strategic ! R' t  C% [/ i
thinking and be both enthusiastic and an outstanding communicator / relationship builder to lead 2 _6 J' _8 X( A" _
this multi-service agency.  With over 200 staff and an operating budget of $8 million, YWCA % G$ a4 a! x% ]4 \$ M5 @. X2 a
Edmonton often acts as a catalyst for developing innovative services within the City and
. c1 S" }/ Z) M- Osurrounding region.  Through generous support from a variety of funders and donors, YWCA
6 [' u$ V: l' p( Z% e3 @. mEdmonton annually assists over 9,000 people with programming that reflects the diversity of the

' h3 ~' L, u. l& YReporting to the Board of Directors, the ED is responsible for development, evolution and   n! J: I1 A( w. k! w! D
execution of the YWCA Strategy
+ W* Z* w4 C% ~0 V# y7 T1 }; S - @7 [& K2 i; a$ Q/ B+ D
Specific responsibilities include:  4 s" i5 m: x$ d1 g, S) p  O" I
+ H$ \) ?2 Y# j& ]8 [- V
•  Providing leadership, general supervision, management and control of the operations of 4 A7 ^& A* i6 x# c3 e& F) I- Y
the YWCA on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the plans and policies approved by
# x# t% b1 q3 V1 D/ ]the Board of Directors;  7 O) z2 ]( x" o: v4 K# d# k
•  Reporting to the board on a timely basis all relevant information regarding operations
+ D+ m3 p$ y1 h( S  H, oincluding financial, policy and personnel issues and provides information necessary to 2 N/ _: N' M' a
enable the Board to exercise their responsibilities;
5 [( D7 ^1 X0 u( Y) H' Q- g•  Contributing to the development and achievement of the 1 -3 year operational plan and 0 z! K# t. J1 k2 g3 C; K  E
objectives ensuring that the plan is consistent with the strategic directions established by , b- R& p2 B' ^
the board;  
9 w: a! g! J$ ]. W0 b8 s: h' H1 b•  Developing and executing the annual operational and capital budget;  
- }% H  j* U' ~9 [7 K' G6 w•  Nurturing relationships with key stakeholders and community organizations to champion * N% b6 S9 O8 g7 U* w
the development, implementation and successful execution of YWCA service offerings; 7 ?/ W+ h7 d$ g4 _
•  Reviewing existing policies and programs to recommend new or revise to meet the
" y5 y! \/ }( a. jchanging needs of the organization and community; - j( E( A. f; ^. u9 F& Q' p
•  Identifying, qualifying and initiating opportunities to meet the current and growth revenue 6 l/ F# u! Z2 Y+ W3 D0 p! p# V
commitments; 2 ]+ U/ H! r! G. B' @/ L  K
•  Overseeing contract negotiation with various stakeholders;  
7 [) K* g2 W3 C' Q•  Fostering an environment of fair treatment of employees and volunteers through effective ! }" D* [/ R8 T/ f  ^4 B: I
selection, development, motivation, retention and appraisal systems;  7 a/ r! P. i% e$ f
•  Encouraging the development of high-performance team members motivated to succeed;
3 x( {' J* h# j•  Enhancing the public imagine and working relationship within our community to ' N8 [% D3 P3 V, p
effectively and positively represent the association; & h( p% c* |, Q$ s( ]
$ r2 }8 v  c) B3 a
•  Identifying the YWCA’s principle risks, reviewing those risks with the Board, and ensuring
, \; G# L$ z9 _6 ~6 j, Jthe implementation of systems to manage these risks;  $ @- @& |* ~  h  n- R
•  Establishing, in conjunction with the Board Chair and Board, an annual list of personal
% T  f7 V7 x. V5 X+ F3 q& Sperformance objectives (within the context of the strategic plan) to be achieved by the ED
: U0 i7 T/ F" `* P; g- g4 x1 ithe forthcoming year;  
) e, |( C1 w' H" m•  Conducting affairs of the YWCA in accordance with the commonly accepted ethical 8 @* Q+ H) b- F; J
practices, consistent with the YWCA Vision, Mission and Values and the policies of
1 v+ |8 ^( B2 E# @4 JYWCA Canada; and ) z) \8 e& ~% N& \, U# A- N: z% K. k! g
•  Acting as an Ex-Officio member of the Board, all Board Committees and Board Task
5 }. P/ X: \' [3 E6 H3 i2 CForces.  5 g5 D' }( y/ f: T
  % V1 E; T7 X: O
Required Skills & Abilities 3 F2 g/ S1 O& x; C
•  Ability to develop and understand organizational goals, objectives and operations;
$ v( t! k2 K2 k# B•  Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus   K3 V( o2 }" S
around decisions, plans and actions; 5 h! V, B+ E' P& X* E
•  Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles;
% r3 o) ^/ K2 _•  Ability to manage and translate objectives into actions, which are specific, measurable
( s! }( k4 h, P; y0 L3 R( ]$ h4 X+ Uand achievable with realistic timeframes; ) q+ s* j* [  m- U- F4 u
•  Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor a significant number of functions / tasks " r  H4 k6 q' z& y* T! {! ?. J
simultaneously;
& T$ d4 H5 Q% E4 P) o( B8 G•  Interpersonal Skills – Exceptional listening and communication skills and ability to build 9 a2 o" m) z: }
rapport with stakeholders and diverse audiences in a variety of settings;
  Z( }/ Z* u# R. R' U/ S•  Experience leading and empowering individuals to become star performers; and
7 J6 C4 ?0 q$ H6 y% s* O) @0 N•  Superior negotiation skills.   _8 k% X  U; T: B2 E+ p& p: ~

Required Professional Designation / Certification
2 W/ g! b' |  n•  Post secondary degree or equivalent experience. 0 i9 L# n3 x6 \  j% M* T1 }

0 l' L  }% @) pRequired Experience
! l! F$ C: V- n•  Minimum of 10 years experience managing multi-service non-profit organizations;
6 N' z9 v' Y" V3 t•  Strong knowledge of government contracts and demonstrated negotiation 9 ?3 T; r" F$ }, W3 I/ _" a$ L3 E$ r
abilities;
; a0 f# a1 _8 }# P•  Exceptional interpersonal skills including knowledge of Public Relations,
# Y5 G; x/ d; J' z( l- f9 z, k. iNetworking and Fundraising;
8 N: u- T- ]) k; G) a•  Strong business acumen and familiarity with risk management, budgeting, forecasting 5 C. f. F8 s1 G7 o0 N; Z- V
and financial statements; and * x! _  ~/ P% x) H
•  Experience advocating, empowering and championing women and girls from a women
% |' `1 W- Q9 m: l" lcentered perspective. : A& I7 \: c. u9 e4 r* `/ f
