This fall, the Edmonton Region Immigrant Employment Council (ERIEC) will be launching a mentorship pilot program, where we aim to match skilled immigrants with mentors in their occupations.1 W, e4 _ g# F" z( s8 [' u
Eligibility Criteria
% X: O! L& q+ |% F6 S6 VAll potential mentee candidates are required to meet the following criteria:
5 @ P! r# \' Y2 L! F9 v•An internationally educated professional living in Canada for three years or less
5 z6 `* X! l/ K4 z; C+ j8 r1 i, I•Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent post secondary education) }3 p+ Y. Q4 g: i: ]
•Have Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7 or higher in oral English
6 ^2 e0 x U u0 e1 o5 [/ `) \6 R•At least three years work experience in their area of expertise outside of Canada
+ f, e( S0 ], u5 j! a% e0 D•No prior Canadian work experience in their field/ m$ b; b8 e3 Q/ X
•Be unemployed or underemployed – working for 20 hours a week or less
; v# s& U2 I) A; E) K% w$ e•Be eligible to work in Canada! i6 N2 z' u- | |0 `
•Have a job ready resume and have completed a job search workshop
( E$ u! c- X% q9 k0 m•Lack access to professional networks
& v7 Z, \; _- w% z& S•Be motivated to participate and be open to learning
8 X+ P2 y6 B lTime Commitment
2 i9 t7 O8 J. m* b! A1 FThe maximum number of hours involved in the ERIEC mentorship program is 6 hours a month for a total of 24 hours over 4 months. This works out to approximately one and a half hours per week.
