This fall, the Edmonton Region Immigrant Employment Council (ERIEC) will be launching a mentorship pilot program, where we aim to match skilled immigrants with mentors in their occupations.- B8 d% q( X' ? ? Eligibility Criteria7 ^5 N0 p H/ O/ E4 t9 K
All potential mentee candidates are required to meet the following criteria:2 U) F$ S) U% }1 I" C1 w L
•An internationally educated professional living in Canada for three years or less9 S4 o+ U8 `. T
•Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent post secondary education / E- X( V1 ]" q( I•Have Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7 or higher in oral English # i: L5 r( g+ {4 l- m•At least three years work experience in their area of expertise outside of Canada ' c9 e' v5 K( a2 [
•No prior Canadian work experience in their field& Y7 d1 M$ b" x
•Be unemployed or underemployed – working for 20 hours a week or less + m' [- v8 \6 B4 K6 b/ G# C5 _•Be eligible to work in Canada 1 d# L8 d0 w7 T; n•Have a job ready resume and have completed a job search workshop; r* M1 Q# E& t x% P9 @0 k5 y2 i
•Lack access to professional networks 4 Y. {( Q" t; R- D0 j0 y* ?* V. ?+ Q•Be motivated to participate and be open to learning 2 {+ f7 c( U$ t; qTime Commitment8 ^& k+ z* k8 d
The maximum number of hours involved in the ERIEC mentorship program is 6 hours a month for a total of 24 hours over 4 months. This works out to approximately one and a half hours per week.: t! I: ^, I8 w% k- W
