Oil sands projects fuel provincial construction boom
# q9 T; |' Q9 x& L5 ~' m/ _According to a March 2005 inventory of Alberta construction projects, oil sands projects are leading the way in the ever-growing Alberta economy.
7 V6 L. D# ]7 nThe inventory of construction projects is compiled monthly by Alberta Economic Development( AED ). The list compiles all developments in the province with a value of at least $2 million that are either recently completed, under construction, or planned to start within the next two years. As of March, 946 projects throughout Alberta fit that category.
' |; V1 K9 [ c, ]0 F" Z# k8 N* mOf these projects, oil sands construction accounts for $69.25 billion – the largest component by far. Suncor’s Firebag Phase 2 in – situ project, Millennium Vacuum Unit, and Voyageur projects are listed among the 47 oil sands initiatives. Projects by Syncrude, OPTI Canada Inc./Nexen Inc., EnCana, Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., and others round out list.
