Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
. U4 _) H- N+ XMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule. `: X4 l" F) F: G. E
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
) s- t9 }8 `( T7 B' ]' l# \, v* w3 Yenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste5 K% C, [8 B N+ x( F
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
( ?7 {" Q4 C4 m7 o9 y' w! P# Q2 zvermin-composting and residential recycling.
9 ] V( e$ E5 T
$ s& {9 I. m6 a% L! }, lThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips/ x5 Y0 R2 p9 i. X1 c2 u
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates9 K" n9 R) a% L
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
4 {% i! g# e' `; T. b' B" m" Areduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important
5 b9 y% S4 m, Y$ q( t& Tresources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the2 u" \6 V" t, \% d0 r& G, d0 b
importance of composting and recycling.

/ Y s l8 u5 Q" j8 SExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
2 ~7 u' n4 u6 g" M- X0 vReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
- i1 U- D) q5 _! E- R) N" ypublic education display booths; assisting with programs and2 P2 m2 ^; f& ~2 w; U" k
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
7 u5 y2 x$ W1 O3 N' A5 {; z7 ]various demonstration gardens and general public and school
8 z& L9 _7 V' xpresentations.& N( G" T/ r7 a/ b) ^5 Z$ M
6 l. I4 X, x. R/ s2 UThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and* ]# L" F2 C$ M8 M
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the% Y5 Z/ a% N7 ?4 i* Z( |- M
most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your* \9 A& K, ]4 z5 m' o
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master! ?: Y, L9 \+ N. H$ v5 y
