( z5 @! g" |# J! |% }Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the' d* t, a1 K) p2 b) }! _
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule) v* J V* H9 P! m( k0 r
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about1 v2 k+ u% x) w; b
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste" d: U( t3 n! P( E2 M& X
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
5 ?& v' A4 M0 C/ v, n1 }vermin-composting and residential recycling.

$ ]. _1 q3 E0 ?' b% PThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
5 x( u$ u( G, P$ x! Z# b7 \) tto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
& L! L% A* O( w- kcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
: J% a: U: \8 x' [reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important* }7 P' X8 K* u. j4 S$ J+ G
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the N/ Q5 U; f* J4 e
importance of composting and recycling.

Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
6 h. g3 O' ^; A! q" h9 NReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;1 k% W0 w) Y6 c! [0 i6 T* I R
public education display booths; assisting with programs and6 [2 o9 O0 t0 I! }2 E& ^4 r6 r
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
! G$ J8 \$ L4 A$ r- gvarious demonstration gardens and general public and school
! g" K0 j- h3 t3 U. X3 Epresentations./ I# H" b0 F3 G+ ?% p3 b* D

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and! y( y; s' h% L. c: c8 l" B
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
! N, J" T$ S- M( [most. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your
