Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the9 V+ q8 W+ v c5 H
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule _9 P9 [6 ?# a' A' ]9 D5 a( v
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
! `$ X! @, ? A% L, E3 l' l; penvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
: R& z6 e/ A; z* B5 Zmanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
$ l. z( H/ i9 t0 D3 l5 svermin-composting and residential recycling.
+ W8 Y; q @" J% h; ^- r
% n* V( l \0 d( |6 b2 a9 X; ~This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips! k9 M) n$ ?9 r2 l/ T5 z. S
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
$ p! {/ k3 I/ C9 ~6 {4 pcomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
3 B; l, A. u6 k- y* Oreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important' T8 t5 K0 O, P& X3 h1 C
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the' n: n3 e, z9 }1 ~6 o% c
importance of composting and recycling.

+ P w8 H' b% ]" C4 m, L1 o# IExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the& y. ]" v7 d% A* ?% P3 D. c
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
2 {; u' _+ A, W, }! Dpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
" i( e9 F: G2 y" Q, S5 {maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
f( y3 T: r4 E3 ]various demonstration gardens and general public and school* ~/ M) Q7 i4 C" e
presentations.
% N9 Y L, m$ H& K U, ^1 n( }4 L; y) {, ^1 p5 g# @6 _# m1 B
There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
% C2 p& ]/ L4 Mvolunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the
: H4 ~: M' {' R# m$ @. Xmost. Curious about recycling and composting and sharing your6 a3 j$ ^' `0 d6 d$ z) }2 d0 {
knowledge with others, then apply to become a Master

Course Dates: April 14 - May 2nd, 2009 -Tuesday and Thursday evenings
