Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
% q3 z9 _& N" \) _* P3 ^Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule5 a5 T- f$ K9 L2 f+ w3 t4 n# _5 P
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about
# C6 J5 E! c q5 w! A& {+ Uenvironmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
/ q/ ~ j c& i; F- `management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
% e! o5 v: g3 Q& S4 Pvermin-composting and residential recycling.& w; H' m' ]" |1 D+ ]3 ~
' d5 O% W0 `# R4 D
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips' J$ X" ]' a$ [
to various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates# x0 C5 I7 ]$ ~' R$ ^, y
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:7 u5 ^2 o3 F0 D1 h% T' ]
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important4 C$ X K; @" R8 Q9 E# w3 E
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the0 t/ u3 u$ o. O/ @$ G6 W4 [
importance of composting and recycling.6 j* M4 w# E* f G n, x
) S4 _# D. e7 U o+ h. q( L. iExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
+ U& M7 Y( }# W N* @. o! {0 j7 x) ~Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
* D9 Q( w2 x& s7 jpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
3 D" t. W6 s wmaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at% T- y0 O! {: l, }5 H/ O" h
various demonstration gardens and general public and school3 n* N+ v& |0 x
presentations.: h: u d9 c: V' C8 Q) a

There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and" R( O; ?5 V+ a u+ I
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the' r* M+ a6 Y2 g& K, L% P; q4 y
