Master Composter/Recycler Program / Free!

8 s# X2 K/ C) H: B9 @$ ]# hDear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the
* Y E0 J3 i! v; t6 n- C, b+ gMaster Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule
( [' _3 F! e8 v1 x+ F: d(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about9 h% o! a7 J9 ~8 s
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste n! f3 c* x5 G: Q& U
management; home composting; household hazardous waste;
0 L" o' n4 M3 }vermin-composting and residential recycling.2 |% y" f8 w) w' ?( i/ @" s
4 j! I" X6 y e4 tThis course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
! z0 {9 c) |4 t$ m8 p( qto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates
2 A3 l: z! d8 Ycomplete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:& k A) {& r8 X% ]
reduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important6 B+ G, m; e2 O; y3 z* d
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the2 n p' K' A$ `/ s2 P/ |
importance of composting and recycling.

4 G- g; U k- [6 ZExamples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the5 g7 h' Q; z3 O$ S& f4 u% ?
Reuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
, y4 ^; E" `. r+ cpublic education display booths; assisting with programs and
( f3 R( F) \2 ~+ c+ Omaintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at6 b- B: v) A& f! j- P+ }
various demonstration gardens and general public and school
$ x4 T1 z: _" O6 J6 }( dpresentations.

) c! r* K) Z+ ?* C3 |There are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and# @9 g7 j' N1 N. }- Z
volunteers are able to choose the opportunities that interest them the( |8 Y( L1 [1 w
