Dear colleague: once a year, the Waste Management Branch hosts the, h* r1 Y2 F8 o- D, j5 n! w
Master Composter-Recycler Program. Over a 3 weeks course schedule" C4 _* R7 A: X
(Tues./Thursday evenings and Saturday) volunteers will learn about; q9 t5 V7 w& C+ w/ d+ I7 n) n
environmental stewardship in our city, such as: history of waste
$ d# i* G6 P! S# I/ t6 M# l! |. r7 Omanagement; home composting; household hazardous waste;
; d5 D5 J9 E; q4 H# y6 l7 yvermin-composting and residential recycling.# _7 w6 F5 J% G" ~, f, f
' O! r- t2 Z6 K! v
This course offers in-class instruction as well as several field trips
" D. ^" I, A" [' p. C% R. M, Sto various City facilities. After finishing the course, graduates% o; A% o" r( d
complete 35 hours of volunteer activity promoting the four R's:
# c& C1 G% Y9 sreduce, reuse, recycle and recover. Graduates become important5 _& ^" e+ Q6 V% R* V/ ^' k
resources in their communities as they broaden awareness about the( b0 J. z3 J1 z* p3 X) r
importance of composting and recycling., ^. T* E1 j5 T& h$ F
; p) _. K/ R3 r Z# A, w* Z
Examples of volunteer activities include: help with Reuse Fairs & the
! J5 y1 p* n9 N# m$ v5 sReuse Centre; helping friends/neighbours with composting problems;
" x) n2 M* O# J9 `/ D6 h! ~public education display booths; assisting with programs and% J/ ]9 E& i/ y
maintenance at the City Compost Education Centres; assisting at
* j7 z2 U* `; y( |various demonstration gardens and general public and school
4 U' x8 ]! y ~1 u- w( Y, Npresentations.

, S) j* J0 Q4 n* L; wThere are many other opportunities for volunteers to contribute and
