The Alberta government, already suffering from declining oil revenue, is now facing a dip in tobacco revenue.

Meanwhile the final phase of the Act goes into effect on January 1st.

  y+ a6 R* C! P& ?, VThat's when smokers will no longer be able to purchase their fix at post-secondary institutions along with businesses containing a pharmacy, and that includes supermarkets.

But the Campaign for a Smoke-Free Alberta is still calling for a two-dollar per pack tax increase to make smoking even less affordable.

It points to a recent Health Canada survey which found 20 per cent of Alberta teens smoke, compared with 15 per cent across Canada.
