Edmonton police are investigating two killings from early Sunday morning, the city's 20th and 21st homicides of the year.

In the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, but police believe the incident is not random and is likely gang-related.

No suspects have been identified and no one is in custody.

% g7 Q- ]& [+ yMeanwhile, one male is dead and another is in police custody after an altercation between two groups in an alley early Sunday morning, according to an EPS press release.

9 E- C; L* x& qAt approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.$ O! P. O$ g, d, |+ I

Upon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.

7 j: V9 K# N d( k( e8 `+ YA police investigation revealed that the three male occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a physical altercation with two other males and a female near an alley south of Whyte Avenue, between Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, which resulted in one male being stabbed.
