In the first incident, a 30-year-old man is dead in what police are calling a "gang motivated" shooting near Whitemud Drive, the Edmonton Police Service said in a press release.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, but police believe the incident is not random and is likely gang-related.

Meanwhile, one male is dead and another is in police custody after an altercation between two groups in an alley early Sunday morning, according to an EPS press release.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. MT, officers spotted a vehicle being driven the wrong way on Gateway Boulevard near Whyte Avenue.+ O+ F3 p! x/ `
. E3 x9 @1 z$ tUpon stopping the car, the officers learned that one of the passengers, a 24-year-old male, was seriously injured.

A police investigation revealed that the three male occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a physical altercation with two other males and a female near an alley south of Whyte Avenue, between Gateway Boulevard and Calgary Trail, which resulted in one male being stabbed.3 Y0 l+ C( T5 S
5 v2 l6 E J# l$ T. i6 SThe three suspects were located by police immediately following the vehicle stop. A 32-year-old male is in custody and charges are pending.
