Duties

* q) j# m! k; S5 l    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region$ w. A  K& v" O' v7 R* d
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group, I( t' @" s- H8 H
    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators  X$ w8 u2 R8 f: O# w
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations1 h( ]" c$ Z$ j, q  c+ o- g2 y: ~' A
    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director* H! f$ D+ D  Q7 w. }
    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses
3 q5 O7 t  {$ A9 F$ X6 @. m$ H    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth/ |1 T" G7 u5 r; j( Y% B2 f
    * Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program. A2 J) I9 y2 R/ [
    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment6 K* c- u# p8 D  b5 Q
    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
3 Y* f6 R/ m" q' f    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs* t/ E! ~2 ?/ F$ F2 n, a1 i
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
2 v8 h6 A- f& H; V    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities
7 F& g9 f1 k( \( i9 x" g3 M7 }    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

+ z" k+ ]) |3 e    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
/ h' N; `4 I2 b5 ]9 v    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
9 r# M" `4 j) V+ M* D    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
4 F/ n$ e! l8 g% H1 t6 o. _    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs. g- o; e3 e* \9 A7 v
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community
1 j4 e9 Y% j" |' X    * Fundraising skills an asset( k: p3 V4 N; S* N, r. k8 u6 a
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
; @: @$ f, ~2 Q3 S    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills! P  ~; u  v3 L0 s7 C
    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills. r3 r3 T$ n: \% e4 U; [# }% a& `" ~
    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills" d  S" H8 k  @7 V
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
