Duties

0 j4 t) m1 W# b0 {2 P * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region6 B: [$ H8 e, L$ {& D
* Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
, X0 k" P& P1 m, @ * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators( p8 E7 p: a2 s/ k# k4 d
* Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations" z6 z. `6 I( U: t4 W# b# ~
* Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
$ V. y# g0 P; a: c7 B8 r * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses

* Researches and develops a LGBTTQ youth mentoring program- U- I3 Y: P- I/ y
* Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment* W) G5 W4 S2 l& h3 l
* Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
* }& W6 h9 x: ?/ m' Q * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs

* Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities

C7 K7 {0 e6 {3 B& g& g8 c, t8 N. j* r
* Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline1 d8 Y" S. E+ S% h
* Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth. {2 v7 @$ e& H4 _ V
* Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
4 `( H# u8 E: K' [6 s * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs5 f1 N+ ]) W6 l* c. F# f; v. \* x
* Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community6 \/ |0 Q1 J; t+ F& s$ ]
* Fundraising skills an asset
* Q* d. E4 Z( A * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills4 Z$ ^1 ^4 L% A! B2 p" q
* Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills5 H3 [& T; A8 H
* Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills* y, Z2 Z J6 t3 l; p' ]7 N* H- G4 _
* Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills9 g; w% ]9 m* G7 N0 @6 f
* Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
