Duties

" e4 z& X, Q7 }5 @    * Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates programs and services to address the unique educational and social needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-identified,two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) youth in the Edmonton region+ p0 W0 k' j5 p% n+ D
    * Develops and delivers community-based programming and provides support services for Youth Understanding Youth, Edmonton's sexual minority community youth group
* s7 a7 Z; N7 f    * Trains,motivates and supports volunteer adult facilitators( K" j2 S+ [0 L/ X
    * Acts as a resource on LGBTTQ youth issues for Institute staff, community, and governmental organizations
) b6 s5 \& l3 [  F& k' x9 q    * Provides interim quarterly reports and an overall annual productivity report and evaluation to the Assistant Director
* W  f  |' F3 V, g3 z; Y* Q    * Liaises with the Assistant Director in budget planning and management; monitors project related expenses/ ?- H& Q9 k0 @1 L6 V6 V
    * Advocates to meet the health, social and safety needs of LGBTTQ and questioning youth

    * Develops, implements and monitors a LGBTTQ youth risk and needs assessment
; W# z9 E4 ?' n0 h  A$ c" h    * Develops benchmarks to assist in the evaluation of YUY programming and outreach supports
8 n# B/ j8 h1 v9 W    * Develops promotional materials such as posters, brochures, and displays to promote the youth group and mentoring programs1 J' Z, l' B' J
    * Participates in the development of leadership training and educational programming at Camp fYrefly
6 s3 B1 R* m. n) {7 c: I: H    * Supports University of Alberta campus organizations for sexual minority students and gay-straight student alliances in local high schools and communities4 P! D, j$ w6 S& N& Z+ B
    * Develops a communications and advertising strategy targeting community agencies, youth groups/programs, and schools

    * Bachelor's degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related professional discipline
( [* c2 r0 u* O' M    * Three to five years experience in community development with a particular emphasis on sexual minority youth
& H4 t; `1 d; F6 @5 z1 {    * Knowledge in adolescent development, health and sex education, violence prevention,suicide intervention, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV and STI prevention and harm reduction strategies
5 C1 L3 t3 T  Q    * Experience in developing and providing youth-oriented programs% K9 J# m  y) S/ w9 e/ D
    * Demonstrated effectiveness in working with the LGBTTQ community/ g8 l  O. J0 Y
    * Fundraising skills an asset  b, r( F# h! X# w
    * Demonstrated experience in development of youth group programming, community outreach,volunteer management and training and conflict resolution skills
' ?2 `7 R3 m3 j& a# f    * Outstanding group facilitation, training, and counselling skills
/ O1 z, A+ ~- L/ Y    * Proven leadership, and strong team, and relationship building skills
! q2 E% M9 i  Y" x* n    * Excellent communication (oral, written, and web-based), organizational and interpersonal skills* q$ S2 S2 ~1 E2 }3 u
    * Understanding of other languages and experiences working within Aboriginal and ethnocultural communities an asset
