Duties

* Provides routine technical and administrative support for sample preparations and mineral separation for isotopic analysis5 _' D/ Z& a; ]/ L2 k$ |3 w; K3 p
* Conducts mineral separation, sample imaging, grant mount preparation, sample weighing and iron exchange chromatography) w: P \9 C1 K: @- Z; B+ p5 W$ J
* Provides training to graduate students, visiting scientists on preparation techniques
7 C6 f9 z' |2 {# T * Compiles analytical data using standard office software such as Excel, Word and Corel for use by the PI or client
/ _: N0 b8 s, H: I% n * Performs routine maintenance on equipment and lab husbandry, r5 V4 m1 v5 }& H
* Orders supplies, maintains lab records, maintain WHMIS records and compliance labeling, maintains lab inventory and safe disposal of chemicals; r" u, x2 B9 K" p1 [
* Provides safety training to students, staff and visitors using the lab
' h5 R# n0 g; n+ M! v# D * Provides administrative support by maintaining records, (usage and expenses) and prepares invoices8 n3 E) [ { ^0 ]0 W/ }
* Assists with laser ablation analyses on the multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS)" Q* f0 p& t W8 M8 W4 A* V+ Q* X

Qualifications7 [5 I1 A" B$ F/ H+ p2 y
/ I, d, d' H4 y$ Q$ ` * Post Secondary diploma in laboratory technology, Chemistry or Earth Sciences; BSc in Geology or Chemistry preferred
3 F4 }: e$ g' }; B9 `$ } * 1-2 years experience working in a research environment (analytical chemistry lab or geochemical lab)
* a( N" M% }" }/ o+ \) ^# H * Computer proficiency using MS Office applications and Corel
& ?. u5 C3 }8 g0 b * A thorough knowledge of lab safety protocols and WHMIS procedures
