As part of the City of Edmonton's Newcomer Internship Program, we are seeking a highly motivated internationally trained Accountant to work as an intern for a period of 11 months. The objective of this program is to provide foreign trained professionals with meaningful Canadian work experience related to their qualifications, skills and experience. 8 ^ h; b4 p$ h1 W8 n5 U. V

Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Accountants Payable and Receivable, you will perform professional/senior technical accounting work involving control over processing and maintenance of complex and diverse accounts receivable and billing financial systems and records. This may include:
: |- b6 ~4 V7 r9 n+ V, D2 v• Assisting in reviewing the overall accounting system and inter-related financial processes within a diversified accounting environment
, H0 L' a9 e% F0 R' ~* [! T• Developing performance reports, including monthly billing and collection activity, customer profile, and specialized reports including year end financial statements" I7 ~1 T! b0 U, @/ ^( r w
• Providing technical and professional advice and assistance to business are officials in matters of financial policies and procedures under the shared services delivery module5 ]. d- @, q& A# N: o
• Performing complex trend analysis, transactional analysis and reconciliation's
$ O8 ~, w% V2 _: T4 J• Applying a high level of analysis in providing value added AP/AR services and recommendations to customers 6 B0 Q, E+ u" W' \; x- A
Job Requirements: " r4 s$ m2 r* `: T7 S I
• University degree obtained outside of Canada (bachelor or applied) in an accounting-related discipline
- `4 T! v+ ]! N% t• Working towards a Canadian accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA) would be considered an asset8 F0 \, w$ K' s& r
• Three (3) years of progressively responsible international accounting experience
* S7 N5 }+ w' u* I$ g• A basic working knowledge of Corporate Financial Systems8 t% ^0 e7 X) Q6 F. }3 Q5 D
• Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and spreadsheets; w1 ~! i( b* f# N5 \" v& \
• Demonstrated ability to deal courteously with the public and make decisions within established policies% Q9 a3 V; e* C
• A basic knowledge of accounting, administrative procedures and regulations including GAAP and GST

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
