The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:

1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
( Z1 a$ F  l2 c- {• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
) H$ Z& i' f) |' X  |• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
; e5 j0 y; f$ c! `• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
( f4 U3 X5 Z1 x5 \2 x• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

( l' q  J9 A, n. g2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

3. Tracking System
• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

% V4 N" x7 X- v6 B; D. rCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

/ ~2 l0 q  g  e) t0 D2 cThis is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
