* h4 s$ [7 X4 t) `The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

( Y9 ~; B6 v2 c+ \5 gResponsibilities include:

9 F4 I  Z& [' E3 n" n' m1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
% T$ A  `% ]8 \3 H5 F' Q• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
0 _, d0 P( C' U: k' m+ V7 e• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
; a4 i1 r5 \) r* A8 ?2 z( ]• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

+ Q& R, L( ^4 u8 F' i  D6 `• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

+ C7 P/ C! M! gCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

( c8 G# D3 r, y- \This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
