The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months. * ^! ~5 ^% ^$ f, E

Responsibilities include:

& X. m- s; x! q9 M! I: V8 Z1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
/ i/ D( |3 U! I# ]7 B0 X) } _+ K• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
' h7 ]& X2 \7 Z( Z! i, d5 w• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
* g8 |; ?$ H [# F* _• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
. x5 Q2 T& A S7 |• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
+ i5 g8 N. w D" i• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

0 V: K: b6 b* F2 r2 p' {- F2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
+ m$ Y4 d! c$ W1 i; ]• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

! w6 g. c+ o" ~3. Tracking System
( b& c7 x$ X% c( H9 s3 d• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s 7 \0 n/ a' W9 V) ]
& Z! o3 O5 C' [Candidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

This is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.# R6 I0 o+ m" }
