The Advanced Materials business unit seeks a Safety Assistant to assist the business unit over the summer months.

Responsibilities include:

/ p/ ^6 ^5 D0 `1. Chemical list and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)
• help complete up-to-date chemical lists for all laboratories within the department
• collect and obtain MSDS’s for all chemicals
• make sure all chemicals are properly labelled and stored
• proper disposal of all unwanted chemicals
• finalize chemical lists and then duplicate and label all MSDS’s for distribution to OH&S for the MSDS on line system.

' _8 K0 t. Z! H! u2 P7 p+ h2. Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s) and Hazard Assessments (HA’s)
+ U" q0 G- A" V7 W# z, R- r8 x• help update the department SOP’s and HA’s. This will include verification of existing SOP’s and HA’s and tracking any that are needed.

) W. i5 ]5 M* x: w; L) {# Z* D* a3. Tracking System
" G; N8 S6 }4 `% Q- P• help develop a tracking system for adding or removal of chemicals as well as continual updating and verification of SOP’s and HA’s

2 b6 A0 w) Z+ L* G! oCandidates should be inquisitive, thorough, and willing to learn. Some education and/or experience in safety is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment are required.

5 T% o- b( I0 P! q- d4 c' qThis is a two-month summer position, preferably commencing the middle of June, which will pay an hourly wage commensurate with education and experience. Final candidates will be asked to undergo a security screening.
