The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
; Z1 N6 I$ k. O0 I, Zbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based( u3 G$ U6 O, j$ @) k
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
1 x5 P% Y6 K) k" v9 {) a1 oprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
1 Z y$ {1 ^) d8 k. I3 @stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
. y8 T. f+ s! pYOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
Z2 N+ d! t* E2 S4 B& b6 K6 qmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve- E, Q8 S8 w0 @5 P+ H
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
9 A5 c! x5 p: T7 U8 _5 l0 {1 j iVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills. u# ~! x+ c5 X3 [( C& O0 u
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
- j" J, j) Y& U0 `2 G# l; Nyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose- ^# |, @6 R1 o; P) }2 v
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment3 `2 Z4 G" Q2 [7 _' F
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
0 F8 }2 M( M( R' Z+ Jexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and$ ^" O& x( {2 B: a8 a7 d
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a( p, K! n i" a- q& j
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.3 C) a% r4 o4 ?# J: f8 F" ~
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central9 r! C) i& a7 k, a5 H, t( e
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta./ {0 c% s6 s6 B1 o5 t% M% P& w
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
# p2 \1 z. w/ U s- b• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
+ V2 u" i( [3 J% n- s7 |9 P5 W# ]" ]community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
3 k' w! D0 g1 }" V3 Wwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities" \+ T1 E% h5 [
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as% g5 {* I& H$ Z3 s& b( u: D" }$ h( B
being realistic to each youth participant
/ i! B0 V/ M8 x; z/ k• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the# M9 m) X9 I% Y+ I4 D m
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to1 t" `) N$ V) i0 r
each participant7 {! A( B8 L" H! G
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
8 S( v7 }4 o% E4 u# y, F3 r& ~) t. qcover letters and resumes etc.$ _1 `3 p0 s$ J- d3 x1 q; \+ q( D
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
. v( d3 M; `/ Z6 M; j0 ?experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
9 Y, L( a6 y; f7 H+ k+ s8 y: c7 Aplacements
( ]' d4 c( ?) S* C. t6 i& V• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating% E' [3 r* r4 a8 ?' L" z8 V% J$ W
the process, and supporting the youth where needed7 e5 e( f: ~' D/ {
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach3 d2 {* @* h/ l2 @
is being fulfilled for each youth
, J1 V/ e1 r+ P, R$ O0 z! F• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are. M7 X* k0 H `) G
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project# R' v- V, i# d: p+ A
• Other tasks as they arise within the position* k. l4 Y/ n+ J2 V
Experience Required: Employment Developer
4 a8 {* X6 [! e) R9 o% M Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted! \7 V# k1 }1 |0 S1 d2 T2 @8 ~ \
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Experience working with youth at risk, and able to assess the needs of youth

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
