/ V/ P$ P# F4 f! P) Fbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
{+ g! l, r1 M& h6 A- K2 g Uemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day2 S, e( ]7 N7 G( r. W/ ^7 z
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that7 O5 q* n7 f% p v4 d
stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.' n0 x+ Q8 c' P) I0 \! y
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our: E5 L4 `( S! o& y3 |( R+ _# S
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve) ?0 `, t$ b7 u8 m% ^0 ~
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
) F. I/ u; J5 P5 EVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
# D5 x% x) |* Z/ k; L, Vnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
5 t) z, }. E7 A, `* ?youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
' S, m6 ~1 {. m$ g& U' g: O& E6 Q5 Cparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
$ J+ M" Q) K/ w |2 Ldevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
& W6 N* O9 W0 ^3 {" _9 X* Pexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and: L( E& e- A9 G1 _ G
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
8 H& f. }* Y. Y8 @8 b6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
# n# N N( J' j BThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
+ `6 y- Z. k9 y" @# jYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
* f6 D( |8 p4 w5 A* ZThe following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
& l) u! D, o, U' M0 \7 C0 k# l: Qextension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

Employment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
- v! o: u d p+ w$ k$ R! w• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the( F2 L6 S( E7 j0 h9 c! S9 w
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are, b: d( \; S2 C2 z' `6 V# z
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities0 j1 b2 W6 D/ M$ t7 j. |5 T! y
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
4 [( f4 F6 V3 [8 q( x# Sbeing realistic to each youth participant
1 r" S" z( a3 t5 L+ O• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the6 N4 A: G7 J7 {7 c, E
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
2 a% F6 V) B+ keach participant
+ W0 C4 l% D8 C& N• Assist youth with employment development including the development of4 ^+ Z" _ p. v% [
cover letters and resumes etc.
! d; }4 j5 ?) |8 O# R• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
& f# _9 B% O: ]- o- {experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the' E0 O0 \# w; T* p* R ~: |
placements; A9 |, d6 K% y
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating. s3 i6 Q% G& y1 C0 C2 W
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
$ v9 I" k' c0 ]3 N# g; y• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach6 ^+ r9 d" i: ]1 W8 P( [% o p
is being fulfilled for each youth" P$ x4 _7 e) @9 i' P- k
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are2 b+ G' m2 G5 n) M6 k: a7 L% \
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project

Experience Required: Employment Developer! s$ q& h/ [5 b3 f- m
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
! W. r0 Q2 X4 z: ` A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.8 x8 K' `& U+ Z' [2 R7 o" f, N5 v8 f
 Enthusiastic and energetic innovator who is process-oriented and committed( d7 t' p/ t6 h

 Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

 Strong connections with industry, or the ability to make those connections
