The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will+ _ ^) P- N9 `" t; u8 ~
bring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based, Y' N- T) d$ t: C( @
employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
F; o; b6 v( r, n; o# pprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
" ]9 \. p; h4 |stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.& _+ ~1 U$ `! V' b
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our$ W X; g6 K; C# T# v( Y% @$ A
mission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve9 d) b2 L3 Z, d
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
" g8 R* d2 w& R/ T$ G5 i" eVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
8 G% Y9 I4 i7 snecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve' E9 `- B7 l. y" P `
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
8 ^$ H$ z/ v: t4 `6 `5 o3 mparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment. B; N& E, F8 W$ n
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and/ P6 e# J: }7 b$ e+ x
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
1 R; ^! u8 Z- G9 s1 g0 Kwellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a" v5 ~6 b8 w% m& U7 u9 M
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
- Y8 m" r' c$ k" {' EThe project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central: i* @' t0 d) j7 \
YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.) j. p0 C" d" P9 f9 Y" f
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of1 G& r) G) k Q1 e. W

# G6 w( c' ^$ {8 f4 y# hEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)5 h( {, d) U! I) p6 O/ ^: E9 w6 g
• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the& W' T) E; v _1 R3 `0 c) L" Q. f
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
. }# m* P' e: I9 Z$ `willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities; J# o/ ?/ B. I# f# y8 e
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as* k- ]1 X1 y' B: K0 c6 F
being realistic to each youth participant$ q+ G* t8 M9 C2 k- E
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the, Y7 n# } w5 m; R! G, |! A; Z" H% t
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to5 N& y9 X) K$ ?: {# S0 J
each participant
: D" G/ V2 i# Z# O6 ~• Assist youth with employment development including the development of; r$ V' X* T7 v: z+ I
cover letters and resumes etc.
1 g2 j; ~5 j) O$ _& J7 Z; @• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
( j2 c" s8 z: C m+ s9 j! s( M% Dexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
/ F, w! y' \/ R$ k) m1 s% C% h7 \ nplacements
! c2 O0 c! l' R) A3 H! t( m8 O% Q# @• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
2 e$ ]" N! r6 o" R+ }( kthe process, and supporting the youth where needed% Z) Q. W( e$ d/ V8 K" ]
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
" |; l1 J. x9 F, Uis being fulfilled for each youth6 A9 L; o( X( [1 }( i) R
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
/ c$ Q" o* ~8 e* rrelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project( y! @5 P" O+ b+ l6 \3 o
• Other tasks as they arise within the position/ [2 J3 G; |1 H7 ?4 b
Experience Required: Employment Developer
# B2 F, ^ f7 E3 E7 @! E# U8 u- Y0 t Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
8 N& Z) A9 v, }" `, p, I A minimum of three years relevant experience is required. w* u- X$ V9 M: N1 R
