% [6 o3 \6 E# Cbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
+ L! g( _" L3 D+ k1 \9 oemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day
4 S: o$ b: O9 T( I* Q! Bprogram and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
: G5 c2 \6 N; m3 }stands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
- H) W) Y7 W5 d! w5 bmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve
( e& |+ s+ W- {' x! ^conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
* D5 C! r2 E  b% e, f- T4 aVERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills
# `, U: D& L; C4 Pnecessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
) M$ V& F- A# X: I0 h' ?youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
0 _- _+ i6 x) p; E' hparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
6 ?- n$ K- `$ f/ G9 L; Adevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
( M8 ]: L4 W( j9 o$ D( U4 h6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
" {2 N& q* z0 s% ^$ K0 hYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of
extension dependant of funding and performance. Resumes will be

8 M* u. |' p8 U; N. U: W• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are
. @2 {! b& ]% `. p4 E# lwilling to expose youth to the current employment opportunities
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
# u; y- U) {6 g" C5 u8 x3 abeing realistic to each youth participant
8 {3 b; ~5 _+ D• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
( L3 Q% f: a, l1 \( Y0 myouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
5 H% @' m* Z7 H; |: z7 ]& ~each participant
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
% @3 d3 {6 n. |! O2 Qcover letters and resumes etc.
* C( A5 T. H! q3 V" e9 K* {: ^0 K• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
experience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
placements
# |) l6 p6 D4 a1 z, ~; f  g• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
! E: e& }  h) m* L% x; T$ jthe process, and supporting the youth where needed
9 w4 ?" K4 q% g  M% o8 R! |• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach
0 I5 U% A0 U- ]2 _1 s' Ois being fulfilled for each youth
( R, m0 b1 c, |5 {8 \1 R( u2 g• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
  g/ E) T! D( [- x# O  }% I' ?% trelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
7 O& ^: n3 k' B/ ^* P" o# }Experience Required: Employment Developer
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted
! c" {/ y9 G5 B8 k4 n. K+ Z1 x A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
