The VERTO Project/ s# g" z. T' J- n
The YOUCAN VERTO Project is a Government of Canada funded project that will
+ Z; A* Q9 Y: f7 i9 lbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
! s! y+ }, R' q. B9 |employability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day7 p% _) D- u1 U9 n$ }5 ` e9 c
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
8 o9 _' L6 e$ W) w: W3 s" Wstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
& c9 M+ D1 v! ?# {YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
+ L" b' U" K4 z3 X- r, K! Z; Lmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve( J; B8 i8 r, J" b5 {
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the' ~' f$ h( H+ I
VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills1 n w& w. S9 {' G7 j
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve
7 C0 y$ T2 Z ~* B; tyouth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose( |: c+ p5 I8 L
participants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment
6 J2 T; } _" O2 V% F) edevelopment, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
0 ?* h8 c+ B5 x/ o& w, g- ?. T+ x2 ?exposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
7 K$ R) y4 b6 M6 m0 owellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a
, b" L' i; m5 x1 [# K6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.
+ R8 L5 ]3 F) g" F) _The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
5 n m5 k* s0 ?YOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.3 U4 T) _# U O7 w) P5 `! w
The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of

/ m# h7 C( @ i3 _4 a( p9 mEmployment Developer: 1 Full-Time Position (40hrs/week)
/ x, X7 A: ]# a7 J& w0 V/ |" D• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the$ t" ~) `! T" e$ h
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are- P6 J: d! V! G) k C
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities& K/ A X1 h* {9 w
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
7 z0 {0 ]- _2 V0 h$ i! _3 h' _being realistic to each youth participant. g7 |' E! W# Y, R
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the
2 _0 r' o9 W7 pyouth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to
$ ]; C- `5 |* U1 @/ ^each participant
* V/ V! _4 I7 {" t& z• Assist youth with employment development including the development of9 T# t5 v2 Z$ }, {8 q
cover letters and resumes etc. |: x; M( f. p: V+ [, l. T
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
- z5 V. u# E$ F% Cexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the
7 Z7 g" ]8 ^& O/ q. p fplacements
+ J& n. a: a P6 `6 d• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating7 c- Y: x# v! h/ Y/ c* D
the process, and supporting the youth where needed
( y# f0 U x# L C• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach3 C" F, E' ? T- T$ Z
is being fulfilled for each youth4 Z" P5 y* j+ i( D4 m* E
• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are
; n' x. X- }2 ]2 S/ C+ _3 q/ W5 Irelated to YOUCAN’s Verto Project9 Z) z8 h6 U% j. z. {3 {
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
9 z, W% C( N( J% `Experience Required: Employment Developer! ]3 D# R0 C3 w2 y7 v* v
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted# ^1 f9 [! ^/ g1 A# V
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.

 Skilled in software applications, computers and other office equipment
