0 L5 J: P" N5 p- O# u5 R0 J9 F" sbring 12 (per intake) at-risk youth together into a unique 20 week group-based
6 N4 s6 N4 S8 d eemployability skills program entitled “The VERTO Project”; 16 weeks of day* \0 Z) r, x! F2 ?2 ?
program and 4 weeks of employment exposure. YOUCAN is an acronym that
7 M1 T! |) ]% h$ x7 Z, ^& Y9 zstands for Youth Organizing to Understand Conflict and Advocate Non-Violence.
% Y/ I |6 b+ ]% D7 ^YOUCAN has served youth in the Edmonton area for almost six years and our
; d& ^+ V) l8 _. a+ Fmission is to equip youth to engage and inspire others to peacefully resolve& A" K" w# p. s8 Y9 o: j
conflicts and develop healthy relationships in their communities. The goal of the
6 H) D& P e) D8 R$ T- t1 ~VERTO Program is to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining the skills ?1 ?8 B1 c( _- a8 \ ^
necessary to bring success into their lives. The program is designed to serve3 ?" `. m6 |- S% F! @' ^( C" n4 q) o
youth who have been involved in the justice system. The program will expose
6 r, _0 o' V a! y* H/ S9 i V3 W8 hparticipants to a wide range of components focusing on: employment# k2 U( i) P3 {+ h% G* r
development, personal wellness, technology learning, conflict resolution and
+ p, g% E- Q7 p( ]8 k. l6 R. f0 gexposure courses. Additionally, we will incorporate topics around health and
% A/ A& m" R$ W" ^! \wellness, volunteerism and leadership courses. The youth will be provided with a% j" A( C D9 i7 H! q# Y5 j
6-month employment follow-up once the program is completed.& R1 G/ i% n8 l5 i z( }) F6 Q
The project will run from 9:30-4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Central
8 s- ^6 Y$ z$ ^, eYOUCAN office, located at 8718-112 Avenue in Edmonton, Alberta.
; B6 j5 y% k8 G9 v( z7 N* u8 Y0 _The following position is a one-year contract with the possibility of% S/ @0 V! ^5 u h% h7 A% J' B H0 l! S; ]

3 P, O$ q* F7 H• Responsible for building relationships with employers within the9 k/ t) H# }7 e7 \3 |7 n' Z# w
community to partner with YOUCAN to ensure there are employers that are7 a* o: T" s6 e
willing to expose youth to the current employment opportunities" t$ [ I' x. ~
• Ensure the youth action plans are reflecting the employment goals as
9 c7 a; C$ n2 F T5 s5 t4 Dbeing realistic to each youth participant! z* d% t! Y5 @2 n) y1 f( y
• Work with the youth to find the appropriate training needed to equip the) t" g: ]* }9 F) _! ~* C, e) ^8 @- S
youth with the necessary skills needed to find the employment suitable to! B; f! N q2 v2 ?6 H$ }% F# c$ W" `
each participant5 \4 C# a* c1 k& c7 P; j
• Assist youth with employment development including the development of
1 r0 }- Y- f! W3 B# Bcover letters and resumes etc./ E1 @8 j I' r' [6 n
• Coordinate the employment exposure component and on site work
1 t% S; ^ @1 R' Pexperience of the project, and monitor the progress of each youth at the8 O. o) H7 O0 D. s
placements; \* l( H& ~( [0 R7 ]( q- J5 {! x
• Conduct the 6 month follow up process for each of the youth, evaluating
2 z" R0 I: Q6 Q) f% ethe process, and supporting the youth where needed" ^( X6 H0 ?( M/ p$ m8 J
• Work closely with staff of the Verto Project to ensure the holistic approach% W* h W6 x4 I- L: ~
is being fulfilled for each youth
2 q+ H J! _: d8 H" b& n• Administrative tasks, such as phone, fax, filing, copying, etc. that are% [( R5 O, g5 J3 J
related to YOUCAN’s Verto Project; l, X' t+ c: m, M2 k
• Other tasks as they arise within the position
! u6 t. d2 v" t3 y4 P, {Experience Required: Employment Developer+ M5 ?2 l% t. }% {" d
 Post-secondary education or 3 years related experience accepted1 y/ G5 Q& |& P0 b) ~# b( m1 k
 A minimum of three years relevant experience is required.! p# C: M1 O9 R& [" Y3 z6 B% @
