What activities will I do during my road test?

+ ^/ s+ u' O5 U7 TThe road test is about 25 to 30 minutes long, including instructions and feedback.

· how to do right and left turns legally and safely

· how to hill park (up or down)

For example, if you do not show good judgment of time and distance when turning left in front of oncoming traffic,

Who is my Examiner?

· The Examiner will introduce him/herself and provide proof of identification, when requested.
, i! P/ f4 ~9 _. L2 e2 o· All Driver Examiners are licensed by Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation under the Driver Training' E Y4 t- J- ^8 ^
and Driver Examination Regulation. They are monitored to ensure they provide high quality road
/ ~! C1 y9 O$ l6 q5 y- e1 ]tests. They should be courteous and professional, keeping conversation at all times relevant to the2 e0 ^1 k9 U6 ~# G
road test.; K) @" |0 n5 F3 h! B
/ e3 K- e* t2 X) R# @6 U2 pWhat do I bring for my road test?: Z% X P$ G( J. S+ J
3 u; k' `. s2 f6 K, y3 q· You must have your Learner’s licence. If you have a temporary licence (non-photo)# W) p! K) a8 u' }% @
then you must also provide acceptable photo ID.! n J! G. q- W! E+ C9 ?
· Wear clothing that is practical for driving and comfort. It should be appropriate for the6 ], k ~" E! P, Q
weather conditions (in case your vehicle breaks down and you have to wait or walk).
- y4 F2 p) K; l7 Z% ]2 U" C· Your vehicle must meet all legal requirements (good mechanical condition, valid+ @4 G* m( }; o7 a% ~3 u4 T0 S2 t
insurance and registration) and have enough fuel for at least one hour of driving.
& X3 X! O. P: f; O$ L0 @· Payment for the test must be made directly to the Examiner or Registry office.

The Examiner will do a vehicle check with you. You will be in the driver’s seat and the examiner will ask you to, o& ^3 r& A) t( m
assist in checking the signal and brake lights, horn, brakes, and steering. You will be asked to describe and' P6 v1 @& [) Q: v# H( X/ b w
demonstrate two of the instruments or controls inside the vehicle, such as the hazard lights and windshield1 `+ l8 m% a) P( p6 _; A7 c
wipers. The Examiner will provide information before you move the vehicle about the route and the instructions9 R- G! o' e- K. m: j: C5 e
that you will be given during the test.

0 w# D% R9 m! d· You will be given ample instruction in advance for each manoeuvre and activity.
* R6 A4 O+ O- B4 T6 y( E· Points will be assigned for errors. You will be allowed a maximum of 75 points to pass the road test.
2 g* a. _; Z6 N! x4 e0 p6 M5 DYou must not do anything that is considered unlawful, dangerous, or unsafe, (for example, speeding or not
# a# g: P4 J4 C1 Q+ R- dstopping at a stop sign).
8 e" r0 `* O( O2 Y+ [· The Examiner will not try to trick you.( n( C8 }7 t- c7 ^
· The Examiner will not ask you to do anything illegal.
- _: G9 p3 M. f9 k0 V" p' d· When the road test is finished, the Examiner will highlight the areas you performed well, as well as6 f0 M5 V* n" V/ A5 K7 K. Q W
the areas you need to improve upon. The points for errors will be explained at this time.

The Examiner will give you a copy of the Driver Examination Checklist form. You will also be given a copy of the
9 w: w/ U, T. r9 h' e! VTest Permit. This will indicate that you have passed. Take this permit, along with your learner’s licence, to any; G) \$ ?! w4 O6 O, I
Alberta Registry Agent to have your licence changed to a Class 5 Probationary Licence. There will be a fee for this
