Dear International Undergraduate Students,( e+ \2 c4 [% w4 Q
, _0 G! u* C" g0 \& dYesterday, the Academic Planning Committee of the General Faculties ' n" X9 M- ^1 j J
Council met to discuss the tuition proposals. I have both good and bad
: {5 D/ F" Q! K; ]- wnews to report from that meeting.
5 ` N; W3 A2 @' I* E: ~# @5 k- T! K# C. Z& B
First, the good news. The committee decided to grandfather all current
6 ~/ x; [ c+ U2 w# S# M' ^# J( n, `undergraduate international students from the increase to the 2 q5 D3 l* q* f' d! g+ l# v
differential fee. This means that next year, all current international 4 @' e) [! ]) [- J
students will pay the same tuition as this year, plus whatever base
1 a% j' G) }. N; [* }tuition increase that all students face (the proposal calls for 5.75%).
0 j2 {# D( K: GAlso, the administration decided to withdraw their motion to increase
2 A1 B+ U8 b8 _the differential for international graduate students.
5 T% l- d( c q( J0 A, @( g2 U4 D- l3 j% `
Now, the bad news. The motion that the committee approved called for an ) X n1 I4 m- ~& ~9 S
increase in the international undergraduate differential from 157% to 5 L2 s, B4 R; n/ ~
220%. This will mean that all new international undergraduate students
" P) ?# b: R- o; `/ w. d# X% \0 n1 H' gwill pay $15,353.89 (assuming that the 5.75% increase happens). At ( h6 R; L b% f
least, all new students will know what the U of A is charging in - h# S3 i7 a, g+ R2 Q: r
tuition before they come and they will not face any large unexpected
' f0 G ]; J& b! uincreases once they are here.
