Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.: T) {( ~. C* K2 t/ k8 [. [

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.) j% H+ k7 A' j+ w/ a
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.

& c; D- A, G) u• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

( S. K( V: w7 \/ ^ z# j, X• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.2 N6 W* H1 J8 t% c' `; h
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability + ~ H0 K, n/ T& O9 m i( i x
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger 6 x# J8 y; ^9 X9 ?7 z

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
/ D2 f+ L7 K$ ^• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.# d( i! T$ E6 ]
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
" f; K0 M+ y) q9 U2 a2 B6 e0 d' N• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) ! r: O2 U/ O6 G P8 s" h% T
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
+ ?. e8 J: {, |8 I3 N1 i9 Z• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill ! z2 ^( @) I @; s' S
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).( O0 d ^8 V* d1 w# F" K% h$ r
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.9 t& B; j" a( p0 a8 _
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week

Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly
