Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

! ~- U' K7 y7 h1 Q4 SFUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
5 c! ~' v0 P2 O8 ~% r4 m, a2 L•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
& c; D- A, G) u•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

" i8 A, E/ R  h; V; E•        Adhere to schedules.
, V# S) Y3 V4 T$ s3 Y•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

2 H+ y+ p0 ]5 r; B% w. f; q' \JOB REQUIREMENTS:
( S. K( V: w7 \/ ^  z# j, X•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
/ D2 f+ L7 K$ ^•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
" f; K0 M+ y) q9 U2 a2 B6 e0 d' N•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
+ ?. e8 J: {, |8 I3 N1 i9 Z•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
* t3 y5 M; l/ c4 ^" x! T. I& Y8 A1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
9 z/ V6 z/ O2 Y; sTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
