Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
1 l& F) B9 H2 u3 K* P2 S•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
  S0 H2 i3 {, \* U& g' S•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
) |" z0 w9 d4 [•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
% D0 Z0 y' B/ H& Z# |5 z3 V•        Adhere to schedules.
4 B+ {8 P1 S( ^4 C  i8 j: S: a" \' O•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
! h' A  w0 e* v$ m5 o# g•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
# G! B. d6 x+ M0 f) s8 q% e3 W•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
* H# u; w0 Y3 \) Lto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
0 c# Q3 ?4 Z* [' f$ I1 s* j0 t% R: fof the day.
# _4 w2 ~* \2 V* r1 Z( F* n•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
8 E/ N$ u! X- j3 Y•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
- p7 n6 U/ E; g7 Sshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
4 `% q2 j4 q7 _2 r8 F5 K/ j8 mvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
. q5 Q, F+ h3 H  V' Z- P; _•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

2 S1 [: q5 G$ F, gHOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
. I* r( o( h5 [6 F& F7 [. ^7 k2 DThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
+ v5 g, y9 c3 l; z. V1 C% F* SPost Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
