Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.+ X/ c/ S9 L( m( u! g3 b; s9 v
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
[8 B& Z! X7 N& L" r- r• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
" E, d1 E% {# @3 U n) @) P• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 8 @: e9 a; E& b' }" m1 h1 u# X

• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.; n" C& s. c6 u2 J8 N
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
/ U9 [: D, K0 W. G3 ito be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

; n# ^" ^7 B$ @1 f• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
5 f) B# C0 p% k* e7 o• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.; s) Z2 _- F* ^
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
/ A9 o( t- z9 G( I2 q: H• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)

• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
* }* B& `, {( g: m3 y% l- [' Pvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).. t; y# O* K, e+ |* w

• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.
