Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.( z B6 B" ~0 [( Y5 O6 L; S

FUNCTIONS:
1 l& F) B9 H2 u3 K* P2 S• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.3 a: y$ p7 L& w$ P# ^
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
S0 H2 i3 {, \* U& g' S• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
) |" z0 w9 d4 [• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather 1 v1 I {8 I0 o' t4 \; g
and traffic conditions.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset. l4 r) `: e- ~# v3 s
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
* H# u; w0 Y3 \) Lto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

# _4 w2 ~* \2 V* r1 Z( F* n• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
8 E/ N$ u! X- j3 Y• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.5 B0 H1 E$ S5 q$ R4 R
• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.- {, L6 \! e. a( g
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
- p7 n6 U/ E; g7 Sshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 6 H- F3 w# Z, s* U5 U3 T
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
4 `% q2 j4 q7 _2 r8 F5 K/ j8 mvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
