2 l* n/ S4 G  K2 W$ x9 rEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
  k& D  E9 `. _3 _•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
  L! b( O! Q$ U4 h% D3 w! n•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
! [7 A6 I3 \9 I7 y•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
/ _( r+ g5 w# s: N- h•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.

- I7 Q5 X" e. E•        Provide excellent customer service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
  R) B7 O! ?2 [7 F1 \•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
6 w* z% t* E- |  Ato be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger

; H' z4 G4 f# q! P8 s9 [# X•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
! X: b+ {4 X: n9 @9 ~; P2 b$ h6 d8 s•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
6 S2 o* _1 C* l0 \showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
+ I1 r5 W4 M: U, t; D' X( ]% u•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).

5 i4 I6 M2 I- G. XHOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
: u& c+ t: s  g5 `% vThereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
% f# V/ d" `9 E; DTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
3 n+ n; k% |; gThe rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
