Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
1 P u g" w8 x' o• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.7 m2 Y$ y- D: f) [$ R0 y4 D \) q a
• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
7 d& \9 r- @7 c• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.: e4 x( g, @8 i- ^* Q
• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

& c7 W! i0 O6 z2 l• Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

• Handle diverse and challenging situations.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.: ?! b( d! h# Z b: O2 }& E! b8 Q
• Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability 2 W- ]. u8 |$ o+ R# x I6 i
to be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger ; E$ E6 N3 Z; h; j% h7 ^% h2 f
of the day.
0 P. ^4 Y! n0 t' e3 f• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
" }3 z& f' W7 v( o4 G• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
, F: x7 ?; H! _! v1 a' V• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.

showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
. h5 \) ?! y* L7 y4 N' V" x• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill 9 x7 C+ w1 y" [$ C
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training). @/ r0 F# h5 @ A; m
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
9 A, _/ u4 ?2 z. J• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

L6 K! J8 O h& W# pVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
- i+ k2 t6 W9 r- X- o1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
8 O: r6 ~( M p; Q2 YThereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly( B2 G9 Y( \/ U1 C3 j. D

Training Rate: $16.56 Hourly
