Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
  s, L  d9 L0 q; V% j8 W2 K9 ^/ [  [•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
6 e2 h* X/ o. _0 r•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.

•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
6 |9 n& O( T1 `0 o•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
" B# t/ B* `  J: p8 O* f•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
4 w2 H8 B; O$ {' E& m: x6 Vto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
5 {% ^) ?+ m; W; t$ ]. v•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
6 [5 \$ I7 e6 j5 x- _8 a•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
6 Z8 ^3 R8 `6 K/ {" `" l•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
+ x! f0 |5 y- c5 U$ Y3 L; r6 i' Kshowing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
$ A# l" F2 g+ X" m% W; |•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

HOURS OF WORK:
$ A4 R8 f* I- a4 aVarious hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
, l5 S& d  D3 oTraining Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
