& Q/ c; _' h5 i/ ~) {; k3 uEdmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.

FUNCTIONS:
7 T) `# L1 W8 `1 z•        Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
$ R7 t5 {. h; i# ?•        Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
•        Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
5 b& m( x8 v/ p1 f/ l0 Y5 o) T1 @•        Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather
and traffic conditions.
•        Adhere to schedules.
•        Obey and follow defensive driving guidelines, local traffic laws and Transit system regulations.
•        Ensure the safety of all passengers.
•        Handle diverse and challenging situations.
•        Communicate effectively in a variety of situations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
9 S2 O8 Y/ a- a6 q" e8 _•        Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.
/ ?$ p$ ~9 g9 t" S: t5 M& c! c5 w•        Proven ability to deal directly with the public, with well-developed customer service skills; the ability
5 t1 I# B$ M' T4 G# uto be diplomatic and courteous in dealing with the public, from the first passenger to the last passenger
of the day.
' S) [+ I* n# x8 J1 b. |( i•        Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).
•        Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
3 u& v3 c# n( Y2 ~2 a& I5 x( l$ l•        Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.
•        Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date)
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period.
3 I2 `0 _" a0 A+ L8 O, S•        Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
4 K- a& K! v; |  v% }3 \2 A6 \video-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).
•        Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.
•        Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.

+ i% @4 T  i! B9 |HOURS OF WORK:
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week
/ ]+ M) s) F& A, a3 J# z1st year:  Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly
Thereafter:  Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly

SALARY RANGE:  401, Salary Grade: 004
: v. H2 H0 v) ^Training Rate:  $16.56 Hourly
  Q, F9 h, F  M3 P1 ]Post Training Rate:  $20.36 - $25.45 Hourly
The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
