Edmonton Transit is currently seeking applications for the challenging position of Conventional Transit Operator — for positions starting in Summer 2007. This is a long term posting with the successful applicants being called to fill positions on an ‘as-required’ basis.( z7 n( L/ D7 W% r$ I

• Transport passengers to and from destinations on prescribed scheduled routes.
3 r- I+ C$ Z1 K4 G• Collect proper fare, issue transfers.
6 l* d7 Q+ ^8 k5 |* q& {% y# z" K• Respond to customer queries concerning transit information.
+ O# i5 `% X1 B# u% M' }• Operate a Transit diesel bus and/or trolley coach, on a day, night or split shift under varying weather

• Adhere to schedules.

• Grade eleven (11) or an equivalent educational level is required. Formal training in driving or public relations will be considered an asset.

• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job (operate bus controls, re-set trolley poles, provide passengers with assistance i.e. strollers, wheelchairs etc.).5 ^$ @# M/ W- a
• Applicant must possess a valid class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's license (non-probationary and non-graduated) and must have held a valid operator's license for (3) consecutive years.
6 e" M5 h9 [# `6 V3 R• Selected applicants must pass the Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's class 2 written test, at their own expense, prior to training.$ U& a8 H$ B$ B1 Y; a
• Applicant must provide a current driver's abstract (obtained within 14 days of the video test date) ! `1 C L$ m3 l1 C! Y0 m
showing no suspensions and no more than 3 demerits recorded over the previous 2 year period. 8 I+ T' E* F( _$ y- z
• Ability to pass a written English comprehension test, a public relations video-test, a driving skill
}7 W/ n r' q* H- b Xvideo-test, a Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, a pre-employment City medical examination and a Police Security clearance (at their own expense, prior to training).9 Q" |/ U! T& ^( ^
• Successful completion of the ETS Training Program.4 m) l% k. Z* u: j8 P* U+ K" i% h
• Internal ETS applicants must have completed all mandatory in-house training.5 I4 N( u& t( [% B' |& M" p

HOURS OF WORK:0 { v# X+ \8 S0 b9 s$ @8 I- c( R
Various hours of shift work (straight or split shift), any time of the day, any 5 days of the week - G3 U/ }- U) C
1st year: Guaranteed minimum 67.4 hours bi-weekly+ k6 C& \9 w! A
Thereafter: Guaranteed minimum 74 hours biweekly" S/ N) ?* E9 q5 B% f8 j) f8 l W

SALARY RANGE: 401, Salary Grade: 004

The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
