Remuneration: $6,032.00 contract

JOB SUMMARY:  The Chief Returning Officer reports to the President of  ) Z; j! ?4 l5 t0 u8 d* h
the Students' Union and oversees all electoral logistics as per Bylaw  / U, Q: p; ?6 Z; j2 }
2000.  The Chief Returning Officer shall be recommended to Students'  
/ P+ A/ C/ u' L" E' o1 i1 kCouncil in the manner set out in the Council Administration Committee  
) z) o  ]) c$ i" a9 E2 F% S; }Standing Orders by April 15 and serve from May 1 to April 30 of the  
1 P- b7 Y* `% A0 y0 ayear following their appointment.: f5 ?' G9 l+ H$ {4 w+ L

1) To run the elections as per Bylaws 2000# A8 ?# R( a( `+ W" j4 L; t

% N* [/ e2 K- ?$ r( J% r. r( l2) To run referenda/plebiscites as per Bylaw 2000.

3 ^. x  d3 A3 X+ c( j3) To choose the Deputy Returning Officer(s) and assign their duties.8 h; t+ Y6 m, v- E( A* x

# k: u8 s+ B" d  E4) To organize polls during elections/referenda, including appointing  ; }. y" t5 V# _% D- }( |5 b8 c
adequate poll staff and situating polls at appropriate locations  
1 |/ {, x5 c& G2 K9 I1 C( bacross campus, and advertising the poll locations.7 T7 M" d5 F5 R4 Q$ q

5) To oversee the physical count of the ballots during elections/
+ w4 z- _" J+ J: o7 K( r0 Hreferenda.

  F4 n8 Q) L: p( w0 Z7 }6) To report the result of an election/referendum to the appropriate  ; y; Z9 X! I1 m+ ]7 Q% X5 C

7 n. ?# B- t3 E/ f# |7) To facilitate classroom speaking arrangements during an election/

To enforce budgetary regulations as stipulated in the Elections  ! w/ E* O  @1 e3 T: p2 \9 ]  m
Bylaw 2000.+ O( E# D7 Y7 G8 x2 r$ ?9 e

8 A& `; e1 Q4 s  a/ k2 O10) To be available to all parties during elections/referenda for a  % Z3 E- @( O0 E( e# p  e9 J8 K1 I
minimum of four (4) working hours a day, between Monday to Friday,  
" Z( M0 w7 V2 dfrom the first working day after nominations close until the last day  3 \. a+ f# z0 N& _4 K- k- h0 n3 Y
of voting.  These hours are to be posted in advance.' J  a% ~1 f6 X2 Z9 B

$ H! |% S, }/ x! a11) To act as the arbitrator in any dispute which may arise during  
+ G4 |5 r4 V: t1 S- j& j5 ^) zthe course of an election/referendum.2 T6 C1 @2 b: x& l, T
  j7 E5 x/ O1 {/ P# W
12) To ensure that a cost effective and accurate ballot counting  5 j( \+ P3 {8 t0 M! D4 h
process is in place.

13) To submit to Students' Council, prior to April 30, a final report  # \' {5 b) C3 G  C" w
of activities and recommendations.7 R/ Z" p* j  F

8 C7 l1 Q+ i$ N14) To organize a minimum of one (1) forum to be held during the week  : y1 [. R4 N5 k5 _
of campaigning.

, x7 m  n# b/ |. C+ |- l2 _* q* U) l! l15) Perform other job related duties as required by the Council  # x+ y/ Z8 E5 w# M; H  u$ l

QUALIFICATIONS:4 m. \! \* [6 q8 B. T# _

# A$ U; |' l5 ?" ^% g1) Must be an undergrad student registered in at least one (1) course  
: H- O/ r3 h* [, E5 r* \. sfor each of the terms of Winter Session and shall be a full Students'  + b6 R: T, z; M
Union member.  F- F( \6 @( q- q! [. h

2) Must have some experience in student elections.- w0 U) k$ ?0 b4 z( l( i

7 K; J( P0 L( p3) Shall not concurrently hold a position on Students' Council, or  8 l/ Q* y* r3 j! j; x
any of its standing boards, committees, or any other paid position  
" z  F, Y0 t' y9 Vwith the Students' Union.

4) Willingness and ability to work varying hours.1 e" y  i. ^! s5 h7 o( w' R! c

) v8 U- E- |  v, d1 L5) Excellent project management skills are required.

" O$ |, g  ]5 {) v( C5) Ability to deal effectively with Students' Union and University  $ W0 u) Y. @2 b% @( d) G8 `
