Specific duties vary with positions and Departments and involve performing general labouring duties that may include:
9 B4 V* U8 T+ iDrainage Services, Asset Management & Public Works2 ?& y5 D+ c3 U+ U, T) d
• Construction of sewer lines, catch basins, access and drop manholes, watermains, feedmains, hydrants, ditches, water appurtenances, concrete structures such as storm outlets.5 y# ]$ @& i6 Y- K
• Digging holes and trenches by hand, excavation activities on major open cut projects ensuring placement of shoring, timbers, and struts; cutting, grinding levelling, jointing and laying of pipe.
6 \) S$ ]2 X5 {( g4 r" t• Repairing sewer services, main lines and pumping stations; cleaning sewer and drainage systems by low pressure flushing; assisting drainage servicemen in inspecting, rodding and televising sewer services; repairing manholes and catchbasins; assisting equipment operators in performing high pressure flushing and vaccuum cleaning activities.

• Maintenance of parks: mowing, herbiciding and sanitation of turf, shrub and flower bed maintenance, marking & maintaining sports fields, playground inspections and servicing.
( I8 `( J+ p! S/ G( O• Construction of parks: manual labour using hand tools such as shovels, rakes and stake pounders.& |* U2 Y( i: @
• Park service and trail maintenance: including sanitation of picnic sites, amenity buildings, repair of signs, roadways, trail surfaces, irrigation & homeless camps.
6 n" _: j6 i1 Y& J) q# H. q• Forestry operations including various arboriculture tasks- assist in the development and maintenance of the urban forest.

• Performing structural concrete/steel duties on bridge maintenance (must be able to work heights).2 B p# a: t# \- W) S
• Pouring, spreading, tamping and leveling soil, sand, gravel and concrete./ \+ f1 f4 W, D8 _6 s' }' R
• Working in traffic during street construction/maintenance projects.) O& N9 v% Z! n) v
• Installation, maintenance and removal of road markings, traffic / detour control devices.
% O( y/ g& j* Z) u2 ^Recreation Facilities Branch, Community Services+ V$ h+ }% I) M* t A9 q; w
• Golf course, driving range, and park maintenance including turf mowing, fertilizer and pesticide application.
& e4 o( i9 ~9 i: M( f• Internments at cemetaries; concrete pouring of foundations and markers; monument restoration.
' w) C2 b& y7 v$ G/ o" Q$ }' O4 Z• Operating and performing minor maintenance with equipment such as: small hand tools, push lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, small rototillers, and chain saws.; }% l! @, x" D3 Q, d
• Set up and take down of furniture and equipment for events and bookings at Recreation Facilities.+ y% W M- g0 ~" @
• Assists with on-going general facility maintenance and cleaning at Recreation Facilities.

Job Requirements:
0 x' _- Q/ m5 I1 Q* ]1 a( V• Completion of the eighth school grade or equivalent. Must be indicated on application/resume.
. }9 }) s3 U3 [• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Must be indicated on application/resume.; ?; x% [+ j+ a. u
• Applicants may be tested, and where required to operate a City vehicle, must attain a City of Edmonton driving permit upon appointment./ y) L- r3 |: s8 m# j
• Physically capable of performing heavy labour work for extended periods of time under various weather and traffic conditions.
! d3 [ L% X8 ?% J5 v& k% H• Manual dexterity to operate simple hand and/or power tools and small equipment.
p: i k& v ]; p2 H/ L* k2 H• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.3 C9 Z' n- ]5 G4 z. G& E$ @/ b
• Team player & self-motivated, possibility of working alone on scheduled shift.
! c! Y( {) J( ]: s h/ K/ J3 pHOURS OF WORK: Up to 40 hours per week. Hours of work will vary with each position. These positions may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week. Please indicate if you’re interested in shift work.. I' g, h* u& H6 t
SALARY RANGE: 10M, Salary Grade: 013, starting at $15.11 (Hourly). Rates are based on employee status and length of service. The rates quoted are in accordance with an agreement between the Union and the City.
