TORONTO -- Sun Life Financial Inc. said Monday it is retiring the Clarica brand as part of a revised marketing strategy.
. b2 Q! L' Y* N6 K; ~# p \Clarica was introduced in 1999 by Mutual life of Canada, and was acquired by Sun Life three years later.
# ] v% u9 q& e9 FThere are almost two million Clarica policy- and accountholders in Canada, said Sun Life. Clarica also has a sales force of about 3,500.+ r7 G1 F8 @' r& u7 @" _

The company said the changes will be completed by the first quarter of 2008. Sun Life will incur a $40-million to $50-million charge in the first quarter of 2007.1 |( ^7 n# V! J- M
"The Sun Life name is also well known and highly respected in many other markets around the world," said Sun Life chief executive Don Stewart.
