Fred Lindsay told Sun Media yesterday plans are in the works to increase the number of RCMP officers and special constables patrolling Alberta roads this year. ( f" B R: g/ K% n8 w( e2 n/ w
4 }' Y4 y8 o% S" ]8 {. y, kThough any moves have to be approved in the province's budget, Lindsay said he's looking at boosting the ranks of the Mounties patrolling rural Alberta, to help curb a flood of urban organized crime groups, who are moving their operations to rural areas where there is less of a police presence. 2 v$ B, o( M1 r* S' U8 f6 o
1 M+ y2 |1 z8 O5 L5 ~Chop shops, where stolen cars are stripped for parts, and marijuana grow-ops have all started to sprout up throughout rural Alberta, said Lindsay.
