In phase 1 we have a couple of extra spots available for Community

% Z L; U# ^# s* J6 ?. u6 sWe can accept a few people to join us this Friday (3~6 p.m.)and Saturday,5 P. l; Y8 f; U! K! c2 P/ F
(9~3 p.m. ) to improve skills in building multicultural neighbourhood
8 D U' g% U0 Y1 b- G x' Z% Rgroups. We're especially focused on developing groups that can work0 v, r$ D9 G& Q. e! E5 c# n
together across cultures to create community projects and Action for Healthy
$ C6 Y4 Y7 ?) L4 ~4 Z8 gCommunities can often support these projects with funding of up to $1,000.

Set on the remote Papua New Guinea Island of Bougainville in the South
1 J! h( @- X9 x6 a% X* S2 v+ lPacific, "Bougainville Sky" is the story of how music helped overcome years4 S( p2 r$ s% U% {. Y
of fear and distrust to rebuild peace in a war torn society. When bitter. L* N& D5 O5 ~2 i9 ^
conflict on Bougainville Island ended in 1997, the combatants invited the
7 Z/ q* a8 z' M7 [international community to send in a Peacekeeping force on one condition:6 L6 m! Y, e( Z6 G4 `
they come unarmed. Amongst the Peacekeepers was young Australian songwriter! w9 L2 O4 v/ V8 F6 Z9 x6 @$ E$ G/ Z1 f
Iain Campbell Smith, whose music and radio program became a legend on the+ a7 F7 ?+ p( q2 Y9 B: C
island and contributed to the success of the world¹s first unarmed
6 Y0 C* q: L# T4 Zinternational peacekeeping operation.
" V8 L2 W1 f4 g( z% N- m4 u$ K* U6 T0 o/ k
This beautifully shot film allows the Bougainvillean people to tell their
# M1 h) a9 s0 oown story and captures the struggles, the strength and the humor of a people# a; y* M/ ]1 B7 L9 T* n) k4 N
who brought themselves back from the chaos of war. At a time when our TV& A; Z7 X7 M% A5 K
screens are filled with images from the interventions in Iraq and
# B$ c- R2 u3 r7 k5 S! vAfghanistan, the success story of the Bougainville peace process seems( h! m7 o* ^4 G: x o8 J5 _
improbable: an unarmed international intervention fostering local customs* b% r/ {# E# B! A, z
and music to strengthen an indigenous-run peace process < and it worked!

! {4 u2 c j- uAccording to Smith "the fact that we were unarmed was critical to the! ]8 ^5 N" ?" }1 v3 G1 W; ]0 B
success of the peace process in Bougainville. It set the tone for the whole
X9 v4 m5 p% m5 b: qprocess, and put responsibility for the safety of the Peacekeepers in the# Q% j4 `7 o0 e. A2 R) f; z
hands of the militants and the people, rather than the other way around.
G1 V9 v( J% v4 X9 I6 \2 LAlso, because we were unarmed we couldn't scare anyone into doing anything,' P5 C& V) x* b. Q. s' j( j; `7 h
so we learned to communicate instead. That's where music came in."4 H) j7 ]5 ]; ?0 B( t" Y6 H
