I'd like to invite people to join our new Community Dialogue project.
* P4 M( @3 _: u3 `& \In phase 1 we have a couple of extra spots available for Community6 @, n" i3 y7 W5 Y7 p
Engagement Training.

We can accept a few people to join us this Friday (3~6 p.m.)and Saturday,; Q2 m/ J: A' [( c% P b; Q6 e" V! `7 {
(9~3 p.m. ) to improve skills in building multicultural neighbourhood& Y/ n. m5 N+ y+ [. y6 T
groups. We're especially focused on developing groups that can work
2 U! |/ d, x- s8 y8 A" Dtogether across cultures to create community projects and Action for Healthy
' q9 i5 p. B# ]' pCommunities can often support these projects with funding of up to $1,000.

- W; i; c& H" ~ A' _Pacific, "Bougainville Sky" is the story of how music helped overcome years" a9 H+ v' i+ s6 `+ o
of fear and distrust to rebuild peace in a war torn society. When bitter
' }! D j) ?. X. q3 @+ h; aconflict on Bougainville Island ended in 1997, the combatants invited the
9 F- h2 u; D8 S: m1 ~international community to send in a Peacekeeping force on one condition: q7 @. _) [# |/ C& L+ g
they come unarmed. Amongst the Peacekeepers was young Australian songwriter
( A) v. P) {/ A1 M) N1 k7 M9 [Iain Campbell Smith, whose music and radio program became a legend on the
: b6 S( ~5 c$ b6 C0 Pisland and contributed to the success of the world¹s first unarmed
1 l7 {* E6 y/ O- E2 E9 u: v3 S7 H$ linternational peacekeeping operation.
) ~9 \) y9 V. S
; N6 J- w: a/ X0 MThis beautifully shot film allows the Bougainvillean people to tell their
' z# G8 g: w8 t" lown story and captures the struggles, the strength and the humor of a people
. R) O- `+ b0 \( s3 ]who brought themselves back from the chaos of war. At a time when our TV
6 Y$ m! c' P! d9 d U! dscreens are filled with images from the interventions in Iraq and
( C- R& ~9 |( u+ A7 d U7 o& s8 AAfghanistan, the success story of the Bougainville peace process seems
! M4 b# q6 l& S E3 B+ Zimprobable: an unarmed international intervention fostering local customs; j+ W2 [" V+ s! T1 ` v
and music to strengthen an indigenous-run peace process < and it worked!9 y# q$ v# f1 D8 m7 e' u# F' i
3 ^" X! M* u7 L! j/ rAccording to Smith "the fact that we were unarmed was critical to the
$ i9 U0 q+ V# R6 O4 isuccess of the peace process in Bougainville. It set the tone for the whole' P( i' s8 m1 t' j
process, and put responsibility for the safety of the Peacekeepers in the. h8 \# K$ _3 T$ D& {
hands of the militants and the people, rather than the other way around.
# b3 C5 W* k8 p* q- `Also, because we were unarmed we couldn't scare anyone into doing anything,
' m- C% F4 }2 r k) wso we learned to communicate instead. That's where music came in."$ E X& x& q r+ }- w- y
