1 W+ R% d6 H* d$ CEDMONTON — The West Edmonton Mall has reopened after police investigated a suspicious package Tuesday morning.

9 j& [9 W, \6 {1 K" S3 JThe item, which turned out to be a DVD player, was reported to police just after 8:30 a.m. and officers swooped in to shut down entrances to the shopping centre.

9 @4 @% j9 N( G+ I0 jPolice evacuated the mall, and a short time later determined the package was merely a DVD player left on a bench outside the SportCheck store.

"I think we made a very measured response and dealt with the safely issues appropriately," said Staff Sgt. Steve Jones. "We just contained an area within the mall."
