Edmonton home builders say they are working non-stop to meet a demand they haven’t seen since the boom of 2005.

Builders started construction on 468 new single detached homes last month, a 34 per cent increase from August 2013.4 F# z- C3 P+ E
* r! r1 I; d! R5 M- U& _! D“Right now we're running flat out, we’re building as much as we can,” said Rob Busby, construction manager for Landmark Homes.0 I' K" u/ ]( i1 U9 m9 j5 M6 q

The increased demand is due to strong job and population growth, according to Christina Butchart, senior analyst with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.: c. j! x X- \. q
4 S* j" U2 h- a7 s: z% f! v“If you look at the number of people who are moving into Edmonton, it’s record high levels so that’s contributing to that expanding demand,” she said.
