Immigrant women and their families can now access a “household toolkit” crafted by a local service group for new immigrant families, through real estate agents. 1 R3 X3 q! y m% S$ i: e, S4 T

In the tool kit are 75 common hand tools – like a hammer and screwdriver – as well a book on how to buy a home, a home maintenance schedule and other items.

“The tools are a symbol of hope for people trying to build new lives in Edmonton,” said Madeline Sarafinchan, president of the Edmonton Real Estate Board. . k6 _5 U3 {! R/ I5 D* X# j

The program was announced by a group called Changing Together… A Centre for Immigrant Women.

9 R4 y# P0 f1 Q2 D& ^Josephine Pallard, the group’s executive director, said Alberta’s economic boom has caused a housing shortage that makes it more difficult for immigrants to find a place to live and integrate into Canadian society.
