Newcomers are being offered some help when shopping for a home in Edmonton’s tight housing market.
9 n0 O; ^" Q7 P. t% m5 r, b3 @: IImmigrant women and their families can now access a “household toolkit” crafted by a local service group for new immigrant families, through real estate agents.

& J1 [5 g- B" C4 tIn the tool kit are 75 common hand tools – like a hammer and screwdriver – as well a book on how to buy a home, a home maintenance schedule and other items.

, X; h4 m6 W/ z; W4 B“The tools are a symbol of hope for people trying to build new lives in Edmonton,” said Madeline Sarafinchan, president of the Edmonton Real Estate Board.

Josephine Pallard, the group’s executive director, said Alberta’s economic boom has caused a housing shortage that makes it more difficult for immigrants to find a place to live and integrate into Canadian society. ~/ H& B" E' f
