Immigrant women and their families can now access a “household toolkit” crafted by a local service group for new immigrant families, through real estate agents.

In the tool kit are 75 common hand tools – like a hammer and screwdriver – as well a book on how to buy a home, a home maintenance schedule and other items. ; N# c0 p9 P0 E& a

“The tools are a symbol of hope for people trying to build new lives in Edmonton,” said Madeline Sarafinchan, president of the Edmonton Real Estate Board. - z C6 I% n# l b# ^" T1 Y1 i

Josephine Pallard, the group’s executive director, said Alberta’s economic boom has caused a housing shortage that makes it more difficult for immigrants to find a place to live and integrate into Canadian society.
