Insurance required

) U2 j4 m( V, h# H1 NExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall0 a0 A. _( ?, u- [) U2 q- R/ s
not do any of the following:5 a y* P7 `# {# A0 X; O/ G2 x) O: h
(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor3 u& Q+ D* l- _8 G
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
% J8 }5 h6 d: w: K4 _ N(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor3 b' C0 d1 }+ |4 Z: F6 a# {
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;# l3 i; }/ v+ Q ?. O s
(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
# e% q* C {9 y: @3 v" j+ y# zpermit another person
3 x+ @4 q: w/ Q(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or
9 ]; Q' [2 }* n5 O# R5 r(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
. m5 H7 v3 m3 C) ~: tunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;

responsibility card or a copy of it

responsibility card or copy.

5 G. Y( Y; ?: s/ s! n( \: ?& vIf a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway# K: v7 c- ~. g) g
without the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of0 a: r3 f. c* D6 H3 g8 i" s& ?8 u
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection/ s% P5 t9 W( ?0 r8 w- P
(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is% W, Q9 I# N, F5 {: z
not an insured motor vehicle.

If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this) Q1 K. {' j: k- Q3 Q/ H% _& i
Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this' E" D/ w/ ^0 Y8 ]. {$ L4 o

Subsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a/ k; O5 r1 J) P- O) \
financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the$ S9 K; E5 w$ x0 G+ i% v
Insurance Act
% {, ?+ N8 K/ y# d2 uby an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
8 i$ m) a* V- x1 p+ [) q; Y* |outside Alberta.; m2 A& y8 D; s

0 T6 f# W) o4 e5 M8 z, tA person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
& G; C$ S; |$ m(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,7 K" c! X. W# N M5 Y# w- o
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25000 p$ ?+ {& R) f0 Y4 z0 l
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
2 p9 C* j* Y4 [, Pimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not
0 t. J+ I0 U% {- J2 amore than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
