4 j. b! J& q' TExcept as otherwise permitted under this Act, a person shall
, @$ ^3 b6 p1 z" t: G$ qnot do any of the following:
# T7 E9 K s1 g3 s0 Q(a) drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor
" R' O2 Q8 \+ ~1 qvehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
; \2 J N; _; ]+ s8 H(b) have a motor vehicle on a highway unless the motor' {' f9 W. c. h$ M G4 t5 g: q- s( [
vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
4 T- E* N( \' P) r/ y(c) where a person is the registered owner of a motor vehicle,
' O/ R# r4 u, Ypermit another person
; J$ J/ Q- ?/ }. B: e# l- a' n(i) to drive the motor vehicle on a highway, or) G- G. r% w6 [' c1 x7 G4 F
(ii) to have the motor vehicle on a highway,
- X+ h( E0 W0 T* f% Dunless the motor vehicle is an insured motor vehicle;
6 m% }' v" Z2 O(d) give or lend a financial
2 V- x& v/ [' W2 u1 L' H" o cresponsibility card or a copy of it
* H5 ^8 h p1 j( F: ^to a person not entitled to have that financial
8 |+ T% E$ \ E7 N. L* Zresponsibility card or copy.8 x! X1 }$ [4 [+ s
(1.1)5 h, ?$ z$ u) j/ u. Q1 t! X d
If a person drives or has a motor vehicle on a highway
! l7 A- G1 c+ iwithout the expressed or implied consent of the registered owner of8 D* K& K. ^/ e5 o# v! j" S
the vehicle, that person is deemed for the purposes of subsection
# D1 ^8 i& t/ ]. \! d(1)(a) or (b) to drive or have on a highway a motor vehicle that is1 x( n0 R+ V# _. x( @
not an insured motor vehicle.
9 c3 G& d7 Q( R- }* C+ a(2)5 b9 @$ k- S* m' C7 j# g# n4 Y
If the registration of a motor vehicle is suspended under this
# d9 B% |, ~* R+ k0 X: q* ?Act, the motor vehicle is still registered for the purposes of this
/ d; q! W6 }, C- _, Psection.

3 ~0 p; R4 q; w. L( J5 uSubsection (1)(a) and (b) do not apply to a person to whom a
1 j( I" u* w5 K9 [) W; `financial responsibility card has been issued pursuant to the0 D. r; ]& [7 Z4 }, k( a
Insurance Act1 e. m6 O8 d" a) |4 S$ H3 o
by an insurer who has issued an owner’s policy
3 d6 T1 c4 P2 s0 Goutside Alberta.
5 w' v! c8 o; O1 R8 T6 z(4)& S1 G; P0 a G
A person, other than a corporation, who contravenes subsection
) `; P8 p% t$ b; @(1) or section 52(1)(h) or 167(8) is liable,7 u# ~9 W, t- F$ a. r! O
(a) for the first contravention, to a fine of not less than $25003 f0 W- P/ p$ z5 m
and not more than $10 000 and in default of payment to
. j- h" |. J5 _5 o) Nimprisonment for a term of not less than 45 days and not: u# B! r- X) T" t* c, Z( d3 N
more than 6 months

Minimum $2500, if you don't pay, you will go to jail for a minimum of 45 days. |
