$ B4 \& t2 d8 G1 Z4 KPublic holidays that fall on a weekend are often taken on a Monday, but not officially. Some businesses take the Monday while others take the preceding Friday. There is a push to make Saint Patrick's Day a national holiday. It is being sponsored by Guinness. Employers in QC have the option of giving either Good Friday or Easter Monday off. Victoria Day is not officially a statutory holiday in NB, NL, NS, or PE, but most people have it off anyway. Officially, only Canada Day is moved to a Monday when July 1 falls on a Sunday. There is no official stance when it falls on a Saturday. Many take Friday off when it falls on a Saturday. The Civic Holiday is referred to differently in various areas: AB (Alberta): Heritage Day. BC (British Columbia): British Columbia Day. MB (Manitoba): Civic Holiday. NB (New Brunswick): New Brunswick Day. NL (Newfoundland and Labrador): Regatta Day. NS (Nova Scotia): Natal Day. ON (Ontario): Civic Holiday (or Simcoe Day in Toronto). PE (Prince Edward Island): Natal Day. QC (Quebec): St. Jean Baptiste (June 24). SK (Saskatchewan): Civic Holiday or Saskatchewan Day. NT (Northwest Territories): Civic Holiday. NU (Nunavut): Civic Holiday. YK (Yukon): Discovery Day. Thanksgiving is not officially a statutory holiday in MB, NB, NL, NS, PE, or QC, but most people have it off anyway. ( k ) Saturdays : As mentioned in footnote (i), above, our research indicates that some of the bank holidays, legal holidays and public holidays that occur on a weekend in Canada, are moved, or that days in lieu are given. The fact that the date displayed above is a Saturday means that either this particular holiday does not move, or it only moves it it occurs on a Sunday. Examples of this are religious holidays such as Holy Saturday, or the actual date of a holiday, such as Christmas, for which an additional day in lieu is given when it occurs on a weekend.
