n& H) u; k0 S* n
, w( ~! q, f! k' V" J1 a+ I
        1. I couldn't care less.
6 C9 q$ X6 F* h
I don''t care at all. 或 I don''t give a hoot. 例如:
8 Z  ~+ t0 E1 T& Y3 ?; v1 u' ]. u/ I$ r) J! x, l
What do you think of the budget-cut?(你对预算削减有何看法?)
9 y1 v$ u2 }7 J* `0 E7 g1 H0 b3 H$ e/ u& u- |
  你回答: I couldn't care less.(我毫不在乎) * @6 k* ]' l% k$ s& M
" H1 Q4 h) X* z+ a" c/ v
  How do you like Mr. Lee's political point of view?(你喜欢李先生的政见吗?)
' f5 h1 X% N, ?" u# L! R6 @% R4 l- L% @4 q, z
  I couldn't care less.(我才不在乎呢!) 3 U) B( t- p: w* V
2 r9 {( h3 ?. ~, ?! |* q

$ V* n+ a+ E+ S4 w! l3 T  I couldn't care less about the promotion or pay raise.(我不在乎升级或加薪) 4 k: w3 J& z+ F8 n/ }

Yes, you do(care). $ {* \: F) [+ {& k, H/ F' L+ @

- c1 B/ `5 o8 ~% G9 n0 V0 H  至于 I couldn't care more. 就是“我很在乎”(I care a lot.)或 I care deeply. 同理:
% G- O8 B* w; F+ M. S! p. G; `0 Y: W& `& |8 {
  I couldn't agree more.=I totally agree.(我完全同意) ' h4 G* P8 i9 o" [

- q4 g# z; a% R, R+ G) H  I couldn't please you more.=I did my best to please you.(我尽量使你高兴) , k2 F- n3 Y, E0 G/ |
7 ~) [9 O: j+ \+ c
  I couldn't be more right.=I am totally right. 6 o! P% u( j5 m# _2 n( _( |! i

7 \$ e8 H' O+ i: V
  S: x, Z/ u! \; A. `
  \" A4 s7 v. g/ Q- y+ @9 Z# x! C  I couldn't be more wrong.
+ @$ ~$ e+ I5 I9 n$ U" H/ v% N6 ?, k; i1 s: ]
I could care less. = I care to some degree.(care 的程度可能减少)
5 n% _" x: L) z6 I3 y( C) v& ~' C6 b6 X2 r1 A; o
  I could care more.=I care some.(care的程度也许增加)(主词可用任何人称代名词:he, she, you, we, they 等。但只用 could,不用 can。) , b- f3 O; s" ^4 i, r" L4 |8 ~7 k

  O  {" E  P) k( o5 D  2. No bones about it. ) d% U1 z, A; `8 |- q
& h' R( [" Y5 e) m% w$ H
  意思是:真实的,诚恳的(truly, sincerely or exactly),也就是 to make no bones about it.(bone 要加 s, it 是指 something)例如:
  L# E: z" y. r( ^
9 a% P$ @+ c( r* Z5 M/ s  His wife is beautiful;no bones about it.(他的太太真是很漂亮)
8 k4 `  {9 B/ U' ?: a. Y- j2 B0 t
  Mr. A made no bones about it when he talked about abortion issue.(当 A 先生谈到堕胎问题时,他是诚恳的。) : w" b) y8 ]6 {7 t. v9 L5 p$ k

% s  h: m. a, `' W  i( d" W6 R  When I spoke on the topic,he said, "No bones about it."(也就是他同意我的看法) 6 j, I) H' t' O! Y4 {! s2 |

% }; c8 ?+ I! [! l/ o$ ]2 e/ j  No bones about it;the weather is very chilly today.(今天是真的太冷了)
4 v. R3 f) |4 w: W7 `6 b; B$ m/ v1 [
  3. take it on me! 4 L% I4 ]$ M4 v
9 Z. g; [7 J  W. U( L* @
  意思是:“这是我的,请用吧!”“这是免费的”(help yourself to it; it is free),这多半是指吃的东西或一些不贵重的东西。例如: 8 a  k9 N  G) i7 J
8 U# }2 V8 \+ C1 q
  Here are some candies from England; take one on me. (one = candy)
9 W1 i: t, L$ O2 X8 W! _9 v) e1 l* m
  The restaurant owner said to me, "Take the dessert on me." - q  O9 `6 T4 W* q( P- o% S

% U; U. W$ o7 M0 P3 m  Please take these pencils on me.(取用一些我的铅笔吧!)
. H* j, U. I3 _/ K" @# @* o
5 G2 |; K" N8 A  可见 take 后面的 it,是指 something,而 on 的后面通常不指别人,所以多半也只用在第一人称单数 me。 + ]" V& O' U* ^# v* A1 _5 K1 ]
% |! o9 x& i& k. B) M5 r' |
  (假如夫妇在一起,也可以说:Take it on us.) % D; z; u/ X8 Z
7 D8 e1 u$ l& [' a3 p/ n( f6 G. ^
  4. I am from Missouri.
' e& Z6 y0 j4 x! Y- e! m% b  H. y/ o+ v- X& S8 R
  这句话有时后面要加一句:“I need to be shown.”或“You have got to show me.”,意思是 Missouri 州的人很固执 (stubborn),不太信任别人,一定要人家证明一下(prove it to me),所以密苏里州也被称为“The Show Me State”。 3 s# n' I1 [$ N/ f' w, p  [

$ G( k' l% S- }0 T- R
  He is not easily convinced because he is from Missouri.
4 l& n& o8 ?: u* S8 S8 V* |' `- o  R2 t5 y% w3 x% j! n3 x
  Don''t try to fool me; I am from Missouri.(You have got to show me.) , x$ U/ S1 o% W; D7 T: M

: J- f8 k# p3 V% F  We are all from Missouri; we need to be shown.
6 p& v9 E% t0 i$ f- G5 p; {
7 }1 \3 t0 C1 h6 ?8 {; a  As Mr. Smith is a tough guy; he must be from Missouri. (Smith
