For the longest time, Terwillegar Park was Edmonton’s poor forgotten natural area. But it was a natural area that really wasn’t natural anymore. # G$ `) e, [! H/ \2 L+ t" M; T( L1 s A
% g; W9 C* [9 g8 i2 }! k+ b0 p1 XSituated on the city’s southwestern outskirts in a great looping elbow of the North Saskatchewan River, Terwillegar was a gravel pit and dumping ground until 1979. Shaped over thousands of years by glacial erosion, wind and water, and now enclosed by the river, the lands contain a varied mix of natural grasslands and mixed forest, and the remnants of the mining operation. 9 X# y+ B+ C% ^
