Generally speaking, the sender and receiver see things from drastically different points of views. And from the perspective of a sender, we often do not spend time understanding who the receiver is and what their inbox might look like. Let’s have a quick glance at both sides:

Gets a lot of email.
0 r2 h; z6 y! b( _5 l6 ^2 T$ wMay receive compliments regularly, if they are a public figure.
% _7 C* T3 ]1 k8 h+ C; ZRegularly gets asked a standard set of questions and favors.
& I4 C" Z% g G5 t, g% c4 IDoes not have a lot of free time.
3 V: Y5 i; x8 ]4 iDoes not mind helping you, if it is fast.

4 ^, M" G* N4 u0 j1 LSpends a long time crafting the ‘perfect’ (-ly long) email.6 L$ D8 H- I5 t& P
Believes that their request is original, unique, and special.- H+ J! X5 Q F( n, n. \" S
Believes that they are the first to ask for such favors.4 ~# A3 |4 ~; _) y$ G2 j
Cannot imagine why anyone would turn them away.

With such divergent perspectives, it’s no wonder receivers receive the kinds of email that they do, and that senders are wondering why their emails isn’t effective or eagerly responded to.
