在North America's best-known spelling bee比赛中，来自加拿大亚省的小选手最终夺魁。

来自爱城东南67公里的Tofield的小选手Finola Hackett??去年加拿大纪录的保持者，在第四轮正确拼写出"cachinnate," "kaddish" 和"bdelloid"后，一举夺冠。

" o- T2 F" j' R2 L# V* GThe Scripps National Spelling Bee于周三在华盛顿举行，275名选手中大多数是美国人，加拿大共有14名参赛者，年令在9到14岁。好笑的是，有些年令小的选手可能能拼出正确的字，却不知其意。

有6名加拿大选手坚持到了第4轮比赛。

冠军Finola Hackett得到一座精美的奖杯和$42,000的现金。

Finola lives with her parents and two brothers in Tofield, Alberta, a tiny town southeast of Edmonton. “My oldest brother’s name is really hard to spell,” she says, as if bestowing on him the highest honour: “It’s T-a-d-h-g.” She also proudly spells her middle name — M-e-i H-w-a, Chinese for beautiful flower (her mom is Malaysian-Chinese, her dad Irish).

- F: y; P! D0 n: F, V/ MEarlier in the day, Jaclyn Chang of Calgary was eliminated for stumbling on "gigerium" after spelling "strabismus" and "sortileger." Leslie Newcombe of Toronto misspelled "dhole" after getting "ersatz" right.

So many Chinese kids in this spelling contast!
