• Review damage report and estimates of repair cost and plan work to be performed
! ]- i! I8 v6 J; F$ H! l$ x# b• Repair and replace front end components, body components, doors and frame and underbody components
$ }8 G6 Q: @2 X7 d" {# I• Hammer out dents, buckles and other defects using blocks and hammers
+ C) T' Y `$ u/ o' U• Operate soldering equipment or use plastic filler to fill holes, dents and seams
7 Q- h Y* g0 v0 x. t }: u1 w• Remove damaged fenders, panels and grills using wrenches and cutting torch and bolt or weld replacement parts into place% y% E3 t/ j6 O' S4 n
• Straighten bent frames using frame and underbody pulling and anchoring equipment1 i5 q( J5 \' m& P* N# E9 g' R$ {
• File, grind and sand repaired body surfaces using hand and power tools
8 d( l6 N* X" V0 A' r• Mask and tape auto body surfaces in preparation for painting
4 `/ \5 }) P9 p! C• Mix paint, blend and match colors. p: C- P4 B) e: M
• Apply primers and repaint surfaces using brush or spray guns
3 s6 M9 j0 D% S, o" g/ N• Repair and replace glass components such as windshields, windows and sunroofs1 L C: E8 E% P: ^2 k R* E
• Repair or replace interior components, such as seat frame assembly, carpets and floorboard insulation
; f$ D$ @2 E1 O2 j4 z! x7 } Q0 e3 `• Inspect repaired vehicles and test drive vehicles for proper handling; F6 G2 `% d+ l1 ~! Y( r3 s5 t
Education and Experience Requirements:
* c% o6 h+ ?* u7 p4 }2 ~& H! Z! ?4 p5 l• Completion of secondary school is required
( p5 D' x( Y* n% s! b• Completion of a three- to four-year motor vehicle body repair apprenticeship program
& m, S1 J2 B; j" D* Vor
4 S. u! `2 a* X& zA combination of over three years of work experience in the motor vehicle body repair trade 0 A2 L! f4 k8 I1 A* h @
• Alberta Trade certification for motor vehicle body repair (metal and paint) is compulsory 5 e* |1 k' m- d+ {$ ?6 y$ Y
