- K# a3 z8 Y* q$ F7 `Position Profile Heavy Duty Mechanics inspect, service, and maintain diesel locomotives in accordance with federal and company regulations.

They are also responsible for other important tasks, including:



) G: |* p5 J% LDiagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making indicated repairs
$ {. m/ u$ U2 l' qOperating machinery in a safe and effective manner
Providing daily locomotive maintenance that includes changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts
0 G1 J2 L# {9 z" K" m7 GAssembling and starting engines
Diagnosing locomotive component malfunctions
Preparing inspection, work and maintenance reports

Working shifts, sometimes away from home

May need current, valid drivers license, CDL, and locomotive engineer certification
+ ^7 x" v1 o; z& L7 B/ oVisual acuity and hearing threshold tests are required for this position. Written pre-employment tests to become a Machinist Apprentice are required for this position. Completion of 3-year apprenticeship is required to become a Journeyman Machinist. This position is subject to night, weekend and holiday work hours when needed.

This is not a Red Seal apprenticeship.
