that we cannot support imposing a UBB business model on wholesale Internet

an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving

: F9 ^! r8 V1 U8 P2 n8 O" sCanada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
+ m, O8 y$ S7 [; Ocarefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture.  We will be
guided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing
2 w3 w/ E* a& ~# G( Gmarket forces to prevail.

" V* J6 E2 e  e9 [5 FThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has
7 h7 Y5 V- q: A$ achosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large
number of Canadians.  Details of the CRTC consultation are available at

government will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in

, x7 `/ J8 e2 G' V, {' Scompetition among internet service providers.  I will be recommending that
2 U2 I! b. B1 p+ a0 uany decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.
