The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
" k& }4 z9 {' b6 v) s' cRoles and Functions
8 G6 f" U: g+ f3 I( IThe Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
6 Y) [- V7 B) b, D# M% M, qorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the, o+ i! N- _* ]
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has
+ {3 E2 N/ V, s. {. O# X! \the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,
4 c( S% Q' j% \$ [) Z1 c+ ?7 Loperational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
: y" F3 R3 B/ \ C! ~5 r0 q! v# Mboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is/ `" V3 y. C. a, M) Y* O4 V* ?
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an/ |% P m" |! ?3 q3 G+ y
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
% W' u# W1 Q8 P2 S" [; b. gstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend5 C2 q) X4 N9 b1 |1 Z# h
all board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.1 g3 S' w U; e3 k/ v

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:) m- M% S, J: P- E
1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the# M4 b' X6 `8 J2 V0 n0 {+ `& @; Y
officers of the Coalition
i9 R; C& ]" a; V, W2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural1 Y6 j. R$ C. }
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations. M7 o- L4 J& m7 L8 ~9 b; S$ N
and public institutions
; }; s3 Q3 K" a# W6 t% q3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through7 l) G- g/ ~. q! t6 G. f3 o( U4 k
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives
; {! e X5 `- g# S- G4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community
- [; W) w; R1 M4 f, t% z- s0 Eorganizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community% A; X {1 M0 w2 M$ E

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
$ B. | @0 u. G0 _: e$ l, bparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

6 q7 Q. E; i( g- H0 h. e+ Y$ kAdministrative responsibilities:
+ {* j7 A2 L! ~; }' l1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
5 e" [4 b/ J: R6 T/ z; Oregular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
; `& B' m' o9 C, \) ]8 Qdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
' n l1 B& W1 s$ ?1 N& Q: hmembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.
$ c( y, z/ Q u9 @2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
" Y2 J3 {+ g- f( M& U3 l) iMulticultural Coalition
% b9 Z% W) b; R! cRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
1 H( P$ Q% M% O& _All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to3 ~; l5 F2 w# A! n
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
$ a$ D( q, @7 U# q6 \2 f' W$ doperations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.
# P7 F; S* @& pThe Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and
! a. H: x; [- s" ?5 f; ]1 Aaims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
' s) N5 q; S* l# F& B+ t: ~' Fbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership9 ~, ^: D6 W7 Y; k
participation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and
! @* r/ K: B9 Z" I2 ^$ V& P, `facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of* p* e- H0 q( t
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial3 u/ p% b# ?5 k9 w8 O8 X# R+ a+ A- Z
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all# r/ @* {; y" n( }
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of/ ?- o E& ~# ^' p1 \6 R; {/ `
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of: \6 A! n1 }0 k) [; T. a- m5 k
policies already adopted

3. Experience in writing grant proposals and accessing funding

10. Excellent computer skills using Microsoft Office (World, Excel and Power

Pay Range & Terms" B7 m2 I [3 _; X
This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with

Salary: Negotiable; commensurate with experience
