A+ D5 l1 \" bThe Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition
! L* }" I3 i; iRoles and Functions& L$ n% o# V8 @+ `, \" X. |
The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the
; b" H0 ~8 p2 l0 Lorganization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the1 e7 E, p9 ?' G$ B7 K# B
operations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has1 G- L- I( P8 `# V
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,. w7 y" c6 E- U. K
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular
, V6 u5 w2 T- [! w% i8 H) }$ i4 U( Zboard meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is
0 p- ~$ `3 i/ Q0 dconducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an
1 Q+ n! \- k! U) r6 nemployee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
' r: y3 D; ~2 Y* bstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
/ m4 q+ i1 ?: S" s8 r6 t$ M* v5 gall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

The specific functions of the coordinator include the following:
: x2 ?9 ~$ o/ N# I1 U% o) V1 U% I1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the4 j5 _: J$ p3 W0 X$ p) s4 Q
officers of the Coalition
2 _3 r6 J9 C+ x. t2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural
, O7 O* p& p& \8 Sorganizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations
$ ]: q0 f. `7 Q' v9 F+ x0 ?and public institutions
# S3 A" E1 v6 p5 X- R3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through
( c" C R; H7 }funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives0 B+ h1 x: @5 \8 ]0 ~
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community" f$ S$ `# K: r) \9 u) S
organizations as well as the media and build strategic relationships with

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community

6. Advances the community animation process as a bridging strategy for civic
0 k! b% X6 V) H# K: A* x3 R: Iparticipation of ethnocultural communities with the larger Canadian society

* E! Y/ `' b6 p7 G4 G' X6 {Administrative responsibilities:0 m# _+ e) E1 n: J
1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its
n* [1 e. D4 K9 }regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of
" T" T0 `& e3 _6 p* Qdirectors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the$ Y0 o, F: Z- o" r6 |$ r
members of the Coalition’s financial condition.
7 j! p- b- \# P2 C2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
4 k. m {- X1 q C3 E3 L& uMulticultural Coalition
* y ]$ Z$ F4 l7 F# Z8 YRelationship of the Coordinator to the Board
$ y& W: {: C9 W/ G! L" e$ F7 ]All operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to. e3 ^1 H$ `* r; u1 ]
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating
4 ]* j8 e5 m3 M4 A* \operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility.& i; W$ z: P6 E" L/ S
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and8 ^2 b" l, E3 D& L
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
2 S. C9 ^2 d" v) S2 Fbe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
d. t+ L5 u- gparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and' A0 x% n5 h y, w- T
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of- ? k3 e Q% P1 T1 D3 i% L/ V5 D
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial7 Y, H9 K6 @* P+ ^% b$ E
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all$ y( c, S5 x' e3 g5 x
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of5 h! S& _& k, a1 p& A# ]' R- C3 S
directors on the development of new policies and appraises the effectiveness of

This is a 9-month contract starting April 11, 2011 to December 31, 2011, with
