The Coordinator of the Multicultural Coalition

7 P4 K: C5 |% z0 S6 ~The Coordinator is responsible for the over-all management and operations of the, S; x* z5 E. F, l: m, U* f. u
organization. The Coordinator defines the objectives, policies and goals for the
1 h3 R0 _% x9 r/ G8 t. Q6 S9 Y1 Yoperations of the organization staff within the general board policies. He/she has. g+ B3 j; R" }# S# o$ S7 k0 p& U
the important responsibility of accurately reporting on financial progress,: d% S8 d1 A" C) }% x4 N+ E
operational concerns, organizational problems and accomplishments at regular) a! {) B7 ?. ]( h
board meetings. Short-range planning is the responsibility of the Coordinator and is+ [# j( B; @, _: T7 _7 ]
conducted within the policy guidelines of the board. The Coordinator is an6 g) O; Z, G7 Q C! r' q
employee of the board and therefore should not be part of the board which hires
5 y6 v4 N8 d+ F1 m9 s6 r% Qstaff and sets their salaries. However, the Coordinator should be required to attend
% h# h" @0 h7 h3 S; U1 I- b- tall board meetings and be an active, nonvoting participant.

Functions and responsibilities:

8 a! L- B; ?7 J1. Provides over-all coordination of Coalition activities in consultation with the

: B- |: _. q! c' d4 \% d2. Builds and sustain relationships and partnerships with ethnocultural F8 {0 c. E* w( m8 A; e$ P, a
organizations, immigrant and refugee communities, voluntary organizations. ]& G( q' z, T+ c' H' B2 H2 E
and public institutions
( v) |/ L% R! p8 W5 }1 D, \6 v. ]3. Seeks opportunities to ensure sustainability of the organization through0 \' H9 Q: q) O0 S" U) Q }2 v
funding opportunities and maintaining initiatives( m; r7 _/ \$ f. X) l0 T' v
4. Liaise with funders, public and non-profit organizations and community

5. Promotes transformative leadership among formal and informal community) m: x3 r* R8 j- ^- i

7. Offer opportunities for service providers to learn and experience working

Administrative responsibilities:
2 d; ?6 A( {& j5 |& H1. Maintain an adequate bookkeeping and accounting system; provide for its4 T _) v" s2 t4 I
regular examination by competent outside auditors, selected by the board of4 m) S$ p7 e' e5 y1 ?
directors, and at the regular annual meeting, present a statement to the
- A# g7 k8 v& b& e: Omembers of the Coalition’s financial condition.% e: R/ m3 N4 x7 z# X
2. Recruits and hires staff for programs and other initiatives of the
4 [' o$ t" r# h/ X- F- QMulticultural Coalition$ {/ C0 ~5 E2 @1 X- e( G2 f/ H
Relationship of the Coordinator to the Board
! f% @8 N7 K" D/ D- f: _; s; AAll operating decisions, employing and supervising personnel, choosing ways to7 _) O: M9 U( R" k9 u
implement policies, planning the Coalition’s day-to-day activities, and coordinating" @& D, n, N# n; O" i. H0 W$ ~7 a3 k
operations are a part of the Coordinator’s responsibility./ s: X) W2 Z2 x8 a+ n# o: Z% D
The Coordinator shares some responsibilities jointly with the board, such as longrange planning. The Coordinator usually provides the initiative and then assists the board in decision-making. The purpose, future directions, broad basic policies, and: m6 F/ |& I( e: [1 `% A: c2 M: b4 ]
aims and objectives of the organizations are decided upon by this process. It should
; |$ E4 I! S2 r" ]8 {/ d- ~& W4 abe noted that the board members make the policy decisions guided by membership
& m, d6 O: g+ @) Q+ E1 W7 E6 pparticipation and the Coordinator should confine his or her activities to helping and y1 f& n+ R, ^" Y" P" w
facilitating this process with the Board. The Coordinator attends all board of* m- H$ J" [. C9 a, N
directors' meetings and make available a business report and a monthly financial- V1 l% T* v0 v& Y, M8 W
statement as a minimum requirement. She/he brings to the board's attention all1 A# V/ B. `3 ]7 U7 V3 M
matters requiring board consideration and action. She/he confers with the board of
