The Engineers and Technologists Integration Program (ETIP) involves a3 _, L- m8 H# e" E- l& `, U$ ]

• Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN)
3 M5 ]& @' j8 Z) K9 t* O( o+ P• Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET), and
% c' f6 y' B) _• Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT).9 p! i; @5 _; j" @% X
Beginning in 1995, ETIP:
( {5 C+ E4 h3 M4 T$ n• supports foreign-educated engineer and engineering technologists, and
8 ~4 R/ o4 d2 i$ n: q. q• helps participants develop the skills and recognition needed to work as4 e4 e! V3 e* F
an engineer or engineering technologist in Alberta:

Alberta is home to many foreign-educated immigrant engineers. These4 }- s- ~/ D7 h1 Z0 }! c
immigrants are highly educated and experienced, yet many may find it2 t2 `, U; v. w; f
difficult to integrate into the Alberta workforce. Some employers may not
- _2 W( B( B5 V: Krecognize their international experience or credentials.

experience and competency-based training, such as applied academics or; A! P* M' V$ x" P3 B' P1 {

The ETIP program involves four phases:

required for the Alberta workplace. Training includes:

• engineering-related training delivered at NAIT:

and recognition of professional qualifications in the engineering

Edmonton immigrant community.

• ASET provides professional recognition of the qualifications of ETIP2 m8 v& C! s4 \' e. K

What is the evidence of success?
6 h- s" w0 A: @+ @: h3 [7 ^* TAs of 2003, more than 80% of ETIP graduates over the past six years have+ Q/ c9 \ K/ Q# T7 L' Q
found engineering or engineering technologist employment in Alberta.( Z3 t8 b4 d2 x$ Q) d
In 2004, 46 engineers graduated from the ETIP program. At the time of
5 F. r1 ~; `; Lgraduation, almost half had secured employment in the engineering industry,6 J P# O- B/ k$ c7 @
with over 90% employed at three months post-graduation.' e+ S- s; S' f! u
